This is a small chest for containing valuables made by Jewish Yemen metalworker at some time before nineteen hundred forty-eight, when the metalworkers smiths doing this kind of work emigrated to Israel. This style of metal work is still being done in Israel on wood that has been finished with modern cabinetry tools.

Before the decorative brass was applied to the little casket type chest, a once colorful decoupage was applied to the wood and a waxy varnish for the decoupage smoothed the hand carved wood boards. The wood veneer to which the decoupage was applied shows signs of being peeled off the timber by a knife held in the hand of the woodworker.

I have provided several pictures so that you can see the excellent condition and superior workmanship on this useful and decorative item.
