There are basically five colors in the magic the gathering. Each of these colors has certain powers and tactics. Blue is the color of intellect, reason, illusion, logic, knowledge, manipulation, and trickery, as well as the classical elements of air and water. Blue is absolutely fantastic in Limited. From what it’s lost, it’s gained a lot, including the Sphinx and some great mill cards. Here for you top five blue cards in magic 2012 core set.
Jace, Memory Adept 3UU
Card Type: Planeswalker
Subtype: Jace
Loyalty: 4
Artist: D. Alexander Gregory
Rarity: Mythic Rare
Card Text:
[+1] Draw a card. Target player puts the top card of his or her library into his or her graveyard.
[-0] Target player puts the top ten cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard.
[-7] Any numbers of target players each draw twenty cards.
This new Jace is easily Lord of the Mill. The implications of this card on the metagame of nearly all Constructed formats is ridiculous. If this is any good in Standard, it will solely be for the first ability, because that's its best function. (Look, Ajani Goldmane syndrome strikes again!) Sadly, it is very likely outclassed by Consecrated Sphinx and believes it or not Azure Mage, so I do not expect it to do too much.
Visions of Beyond U
Type: Instant
P/T: 0 / 0
Rarity: Rare
Rules Text : Draw a card. If a graveyard has twenty or more cards in it, draw three cards instead.
"The past is the foundation for all that exists in the present. We merely reconstruct what our ancestors have already discovered."
-Sachimir, Sage of Memories
This is definitely a card that gets better the more graveyard mechanics are revealed, and since Instead is a graveyard set, that bodes well for Visions of Beyond. Not too great in Limited, but fantastic in the right deck.
Phantasmal Image 4UU
Type: Creature – Illusion
P/T: 0 / 0
Rarity: Rare
Rules Text: You may have Phantasmal Image enter the battlefield as a copy of any creature on the battlefield, except it's an Illusion in addition to its other types and it gains "When this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it."
Phantasmal Image has a lot of potential in both Limited and Constructed, particularly when paired with creatures that have "enters the battlefield" effects. With this blue card, you can get rid of it immediately while your opponent has a legendary creature that’s giving you fits.
Frost Titan 4UU
Type: Creature - Giant
P/T: 6/6
Rules Text:
Whenever Frost Titan becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that spell or ability unless its controller pays .
Whenever Frost Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, tap target permanent. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.
Frost titan is the king of Blue/White control. Titan is also sure to continue seeing play as at least a singleton in U/W or U/B control decks. Being able to tap down permanents (including lands) and keep them tapped for an extra turn is very often one of the most useful effects in the game of Magic. It may not be the best of the Titans, but all of the Titan cards are good for whatever color they represent, and this one is no exception.
Lord of the Unreal UU
Type: Creature - Human Wizard
P/T: 2/2
Rules Text:
Illusion creatures you control get 1/ 1 and have hexproof.
Not only does Lord of the Unreal keep your Phantasmal Image from being targeted, it makes Phantasmal Bear into a 3/3 for U!
