Default Toys R Us to offer trade in for classic video games

This is interesting, toys R us has launched a national program to trade in video games, no matter how old they are (For example Gamestop I think only trades for modern games). The only condition is that the game is in original packaging.

    From Kotaku:

the Toys R Us trade-in program differs from many of their competition in that there is no cut-off point when a game is too old to be traded in. As long as the customer supplies the original game in the original packaging, they can exchange their games for store credit good at Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores, along with the corresponding online outlets.

I wonder how this will work out

yeah how will toy r us decide how much to give me for a game?

For example if I bring in a boxed Pole Position for the Atari 2600 (very common game), How much store credit would I get? And if on the other hand I trade in a boxed crazy climber (very rare game) how much toys r us store credit would I get then?

Could be that theyll just pay a fixed amount for the video games, for example:

Boxed Atari 2600 Games: $7 each
Boxed Game Boy Color Games: $3 each
    Boxed Intellivision Games: $5 each
    Boxed Colecovision Games: $6 each

    and so on

I just noticed the article says:

"The games will be collected by a third party that will then resell the games to retailers across the country."

thats too bad would have given me a good reason to visit toys r us frequently

    I went to this page:

    Toys"R"Us Video Game Trade-in Center

    Then I hit "Classic Games"

    And it says:

Generic Game (Sega Saturn) We Pay You: $0.75
Generic Game (Atari 2600) We Pay You: $0.50
Generic Game (Nintendo 64) We Pay You: $0.50
Generic Game (Nintendo Entertainment System) We Pay You: $0.50
Generic Game (Sega Genesis) We Pay You: $0.50
Generic Game (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) We Pay You: $0.50
Generic Game (DreamCast) We Pay You: $0.25
Generic Game (Game Boy Color) We Pay You: $0.25
Generic Game (Game Boy Original) We Pay You: $0.25
Generic Game (PlayStation Original) We Pay You: $0.20

Does this reflect the prices you get in store? Because thats really low, I hope these are not what they payed for BOXED classic games.

Seems like Modern video games are getting an ok trade in offer, for example $43 for Batman: Arkham Asylum, but no love for the Classic video games.

Probably because classic video games are hard to price. a "Suggested retail price" does not apply anymore for classic games.

That being said, if they do offer half a buck and less for a boxed game, that is really low and unfair.

Anyone here live near a toys r us and can maybe take in some complete games and see how much they offer for them?

Am guessing that Toys r us will buy our classic games for half a buck each... then it will sell them to this "3rd party" for like $3 each.. then this 3rd party will sell it to retailers at like $8 each. And the retailers will sell those games to us for around $25 (just a guess but that will be the trend I think)

Anyway if they are really offering such a low price for classic games then I also wont trade those in. Will consider trading in modern games since they seem to have a fair price for those, but thats about it.

Anyone know what retailers those games will end up at? Are they going to go to chains such as gamestop and best buy?
