Where would be the best place to buy antique jaques chess sets in the USA?

Hi, I don't think in the present global marketplace there is any reason to restrict youself just to buying in the U.S.A.
I suggest you look at the Bonhams chess sale in London Knightsbridge on 28th October (later this month) the illustrated catalogue is online and you can contact Luke Honey (Their chess expert) for a condition report.

Beware that some American chess sellers date their Jaques Staunton copies as 1849. While this is presumably stricly speaking legal, I don't think someone looking for a genuine antique Jaques Staunton set would be very pleased to buy one of these copies, particulally as they are priced at more than a good antique set.
If you want a good weighted 3 1/2" king Staunton copy with well caved knights look online at the India based sellers there are equivalent sets for $100 or less.
