Dark Souls Boss Guide Part 5 – Dark Sun Gwyndolin, Priscilla The Crossbreed, Moonlight Butterfly

Dark Sun Gwyndolin
She excels at ranged combat. This puts those who favor that at a disadvantage but it also means she will be weaker once you close the distance. For many of her attacks you will want to put a wall between them and you to ensure that you do not take damage as they all have decent damage behind them.

Playthrough 1
She starts at the far end of the room. You need to close the gap and begin your assault. After a few hits she will teleport away to somewhere else in the room. A longer reach weapon will help here as it allows for a few more hits before the teleport triggers. Always attempt to put a wall between yourself and her magic attacks as they are fairly potent.

New Game +
Just keep the walls and pillars between you and her attacks. She will still teleport once you close the gap but you can inflict more damage easier.

Priscilla The Crossbreed
This is another boss where you can get a weapon if you manage to cut off her tail.  If you manage it you will receive Priscilla's Dagger which is very handy. She is also a unique boss who will not attack you until you have attacked her. This makes it a lot easier to weigh a few more things in your favor for the battle.

Playthrough 1
Focus on getting behind her and going through all your optimal battle preparation. She will begin talking at you so use this time to keep at her and, hopefully, remove her tail. As mentioned it secures you a unique dagger. Once the battle has begun attempt to dodge more than block her attacks. Her slash attacks can inflict bleeding which will rapidly drain your health. Attempt to be at her front when she does her slash attacks as they more cover her sides than there. Another attack to note is her Fairy Dust attack. She takes time to expel a shimmer cloud that will linger on the battlefield. It is very powerful if you get caught in it so keep clear of it at all cost. This attack also gives you a lot of time to move in and attack as it has a significant recovery time. The final ability she has is Invisibility. She will turn invisible then start attacking you. You need to land a few hits on her to get her to drop this obfuscation. The easiest way to do this is to watch the snow below for her footprints. When you do land hits blood will appear on the snow nearby so keep an eye out for it as well. You will want to press the attack and keep fairly mobile for this battle. Dodge rather than block her slash attacks to avoid building up toward the bleeding status.

New Game +
Her attacks have not changed while you have grown more powerful. Again keep an eye on her and start strong, going behind her and just laying into her at the start of the battle. Whenever she uses Fairy Dust be sure to punish her for expelling that cloud. After that, just keep moving and block if you have good bleed resistance.

Moonlight Butterfly
If there is one blessing to this battle it is that the Butterfly must charge for all of its attacks. Since this is not truly an issue for most classes in Dark Souls, it puts many at an advantage. This will also be more a ranged battle so one should be certain to have a powerful bow and some good arrows to deal wit this Butterfly. If you are more a melee fighter than you will need to play a bit differently, blocking, dodging and waiting for the beast to land. It has a number of ranged attacks but only one ground based attack which is insanely powerful and should be avoided.

Playthrough 1
This Butterfly loves to use the Magical Needle attack. While it is at a moderate speed it is somewhat easy to dodge. You want to start the roll just as it finishes charging but just before it unleashes its attack. Unload arrows and their ilk at the Butterfly as best you can. If you are in for melee you must wait for it to land to use its explosion move. It will land on the bridge and you only have a short while to inflict damage on it. When it starts glowing bright you must run far and fast. If it catches you with its explosion attack it could easily take half your health to kill you.

New Game +
Likely you will have a few more ranged options regardless of your class and style. Keep things at a distance and remain wary of its explosion attack when it lands. Otherwise just keep your assault constant and at range. Again, you will want to roll out of the way for its attacks just as it finishes its charging for it.
