Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Multiplayer Beta

When it comes to an action game on the PS3, the Uncharted series is always recommended. It has great story, action and a fair bit of replay value. This game series has continually upped the ante, successfully, for what games can do. In the series, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, introduced the Multiplayer into the series and its been a hit ever since. This earlier form of multiplayer was very fun but only possessed a few modes of play. With the forthcoming release of Drake's Deception Naughty Dog has put out a beta for the multiplayer so we all can enjoy the game!

Some of the modes survived the transition from Among Thieves to Drake's Deception.  First is the co-op adventure made it in, though for now, with only two maps. Players need to work together to navigate a map with a series of puzzles inside it. The three of you will engage in a few tense gun battles as well. While you only have 10 lives to share amongst all of you, while critically injured (dying) or grappled, a player can rush over to the troubled one and revive them or help them respectively. This is a good mode for friends who want an in for the online multiplayer but do not will to play competitively.

Still, there are a number of other modes to enjoy. The classic free for all is present inside the game along with Plunder, Hardcore and Objective. There are only three co-op modes but they are very well put together. At present there are only three team modes: Deathmatch, Objective and 3 person death match. Hordcore probably offers the most challenging play as it is without the kickbacks and boosts

One of the more interesting aspects of this version seems to be the advancement system. As you participate in matches and improve your skills you will advance in rank by earning money. This opens the way for a number of boost, kickbacks, weapon mods and alternative styles that you can use your earnings to purchase and customize your character. The boost do just as expected, enchance your character while kickbacks can give you a temporary edge (my favorite is the creepy crawler, the swarm option is just wonderful). While the variety is not astounding, per say, it is enough that you can get a solid competitive edge over your opponents easily.

The boosts and kickback system inside the game work in a different way than one would expect. While most games will hot key them and set them with a cool down, this one mandates the earning and expenditure of medals inside each match. Some also function of a particular number of kills. While this means one will not always be able to use their boosts and kickbacks, it does seem to help level the playing field somewhat. This puts more on the skill of the player, making them earn their edge.

For the time I have spent playing the game, I found it enjoyable. It is not the best put together but it is a beta so I do not expect this is quite the finished product. It is definitely something worth playing if you enjoy a good online person shooting game.
