Pokemon Black White Walkthrough Part 16 – Route 4
Leaving the gym, your X-ciever will ring with a call from Bianca. She will want to challenge you to a Pokemon battle. Iris took some time and trained her up a bit. She says she will meet you on the way to Route 4. You did just beat a Gym, so take a moment to visit the Pokemon Center and patch up any Pokemon that took a serious beating.
To get there, head straight north from the Gym, past the fountain the center of town then keep going north. You will reach the Guard House before long. Just a little ways in there Bianca will show up for the battle. She will take a moment and check to see if you can (provided you two do not destory the bulletin board). With that the battle commences.
Bianca Battle:
If you chose Snivy
Herdier lvl. 18
Munna lvl. 18
Pansear lvl. 18
Dewott lvl. 20
If you chose Oshawott
Herdier lvl. 18
Munna lvl. 18
Pansage lvl. 18
Pignite lvl. 20
If you chose Tepig
Herdier lvl. 18
Munna lvl. 18
Panpour lvl. 18
Servine lvl. 20
The batle is not too difficult. You will likely have a number of Pokemon that can exploit the weaknesses of her team. Still, keep an eye out for her starter and the Pan/sage/pour/sear. While the starter is countered by your own, you might not have kept training your own monkey after that first gym, but it will be the opposite element as hers, making this a lot easier to win. After that, head straight up to reach Route 4, with its perputual Sandstorm.
Route 4 needs a little extra explanation. Here, you will be introduced to Weather Effects, specifically, Sandstorm. Throughout each battle, any Pokemon not Ground, Rock or Steel Type will take damage at the end of each turn. This can work both for you and against you depending on your team. Also, there is no grass in this area. Instead, there are pockets where the sand is darker. You will encounter Wild Pokemon while walking around these areas. If you are hurting, try to avoid them.
With that, tiem to dive into the Route, its goodies and trainers. Near the first person on the route will find an item ball with an X-accuracy inside it. If you head up just a little, you will find a house here. If you need to heal your team, just head inside and talk with the woman. She will let you rest and that will restore your team. Now, head to the left from the house. Go down the stairs that you see to find two Pokemon trainers by the water. The one closer to the stairs is Fisherman Hubert with his 2 Basculin lvl. 18 (one blue striped and one red striped). Below him is Fisherman Andrew with his 4 Basculin lvl. 16. With that, head back up the stairs and head north just a little.
When you reach the darker sand, head more to the left to find the next item ball with a Great ball inside. Not too far from it is another trainer, Parasol Lady April with her 2 Tympole lvl. 18.From there, head between the fence and beams that you see on your right. You will find some deeper sand and an item ball with a Hyper Potion inside. Head back to the left then up from there to find the next trainer, Worker Gus. He will battle you with his 2 Roggenrola lvl. 17 and Timburr lvl. 17. Head down the stairs nearby Gus to move forward. Go up from there, skipping the nearby stairs, to find Worker Shelby. This trainer has a Timburr lvl. 19. Head up just a little farther and go to the left to find an item ball with TM 41, Torment, inside it. Head down now, looping back to tyhe paved road that you starter out on when you first arrived on Route 4.
Going further up on the paved road has you run into Cheren. He will challenge you, once you bump into him. Again, his team is shaped by which one you choice
Cheren Battle
If you chose Snivy
Pidove lvl. 20
Liepard lvl. 20
Pansage lvl. 20
Pignite lvl. 22 – Sitrus Berry
If you chose Oshawott
Pidove lvl. 20
Liepard lvl. 20
Panpour lvl. 20
Servine lvl. 22 – Sitrus Berry
If you chose Tepig
Pidove lvl. 20
Liepard lvl. 20
Pansear lvl. 20
Dewott lvl. 22 – Sitrus Berry
Cheren will have an elemental advantage with the starter, but likely with your own Pansage/pour/sear, you will be able to beat him. There is also a good chance you have collected some Pokemon that will overcome a number of weaknesses at this point. Cheren will play a more aggressive game than Bianca, so keep your Pokemon in the Green to Yellow HP range as much as possible. Try to take advantage of the set-up of the area to level up your own team so you can steam roll his.
When you beat him, your X-ciever will ring again, this time with a call from Professor Juniper. She will tell you that is waiting for you by Nimbasa City. Cheren will state that Nimbasa City is at the other end of Route 4. There is still a little to do on this route, so we're not headed there jsut yet. Head back to the House if your team is worse for wear from the Cheren fight then head up on the paved road.
Head up, off the paved road into the broad desert area. Just below the first person you see in the area is an item ball with a Burn Heal inside it. The person next to it is Backpacker Keane who is keen to take you on with his Darumaka lvl. 19. Just a little to the left is Backpacker Anna with her Cottonee lvl. 19. From Anna head to the left to find an item ball with an Ether inside. Now head up and to the right to find Backpacker Jill with her Petilil lvl. 18. Just baove Jill is an item ball with a Super Potion inside. Above that is Backpacker Waylon with his Blitzle lvl. 19. The next two trainers on this route are to the left of Waylon, on the incomplete paved road. The first one is Worker Scott with his Roggenrola lvl. 18 and Timburr lvl. 18. After him is Worker Zach with his Timburr lvl. 19. Go into the house that is to the left of Zach and tralk with the man closer to the door. He wi,ll give you TM 28, Dig. This is a great move to use for Ground Pokemon and it will let you escape from caves. Just above this house is the Desert Resort. You visit it now, but you cannot fully explore the area at the moment, so it will be covered later. Now head back to the right and go upwards to each the final section of this Route. There you will find Backpacker Jerome just past the freeway. He will challenge you with his Pidove lvl. 19. Keep going up to reach the exit of Route 4 and to meet Professor Juniper and Cheren.
Inside the Guardhouse, Juniper will talk with both you and Cheren. Some of it is about the foundation of your journey, but she will also give you 10 Ultra Balls at the end of this talk! She will also express some concern about finding Bianca as she did not answer her x-ciever. Cheren will head back to Route 4 to catch some Pokemon that he felt he missed earlier. Time to head north and into the next city, Nimbasa!
