Hmmm.  Drayden, Mike Haggar.  Drayden, Mike Haggar.

That's a tough choice.  That is one awe-inspiring beard.

Again, defeating either Ron or Denae gives you access to the head of the vertical dragon, where Drayden is waiting- but as before, there's no reason to skip either of these battles, as both will give you valuable experience points.

Using the 'up' direction on the giant D-pad will bring the dragons head to head and you up to face Drayden.  As you might expect from the leader of a Dragon-type Gym, he presents an immense challenge and one of the largest hurdles you'll need to make it over in the game.  On talking to Drayden, he explains who he is (The mayor and Gym Leader), what he does (guide people and present an image of strength), and what he's really looking for (a young trainer who can show him that they are strong enough to work towards a bright future for the Unova region).

Battle: Gym Leader Drayden (6520 Poke, Legend Badge, Dragon Tail)
Opponent: Druddigon Lv 46, Flygon Lv 46, Haxorus Lv 48 (Sitrus Berry)
Item: Hyper Potion

Drayden's Druddigon has some strong physical attacks, but they're mostly basic in nature- except for Revenge, which it keeps ready to ruin any Dark-types, particularly the Pawniard that some trainers may have grabbed nearby for their resistance to Dragon attacks.  His Flygon uses Earth Power as a Special-oriented backup for its physical attacks, giving it an advantage against most of the high-Defense pokemon available to counter its raw attack strength.  His Haxorus uses Mold Breaker to ensure you can't protect yourself on more than a temporary basis, and Dragon Dance to boost its offensive might to obscene levels so it can knock out virtually anything with Slash.  Most importantly, though, his entire team abuses Dragon Tail like mad, dealing out heavy damage and forcing your pokemon to swap.  This makes it impossible to mirror his strategy, as any buffs (particularly the defensive buffs you need to handle Dragon Dance Haxorus) you try to use will keep getting knocked off as your team gets knocked around.  Dealing with Drayden's Haxorus post-Dragon Dance is often a matter of using Dragon Tail's 'goes last' disadvantage to get in a single hit for each team member until the thing runs out of hit points- and hopefully having prompted him to use his Hyper Potion on the Flygon or Druddigon previously, so that the Haxorus doesn't recover in the middle of the chain of forced switches.  Teams that rely on applying Sleep or Freeze status, and to a lesser extent Paralyze, will have varying degrees of answer to Haxorus, though the best bet is, of course, opening up with an Ice attack and smashing the thing as quickly as possible.  Beartic is remarkably useful for this despite its poor speed, as it has the durability to prompt a Dragon Dance out of Haxorus and reply with an Icicle Crash.
