Grumpig is a Psychic-type highly reminiscent of Hypno, in that its Defense is decent, its Speed and Special attack are fairly good, and its Special Defense is fairly far on the high end.  It distinguishes itself with its Ability (Own Tempo preventing confusion and Thick Fat essentially granting Resistance to both Fire and Ice attacks) and wider access to unusual moves, both attack and status-inducing.  Sadly, a large portion of its naturally learned moves are physical and its Attack is pretty bad, but it has access to some interesting options (Psyshock, Power Gem) and works curiously well as an anti-Psychic Psychic (via Signal Beam and Payback) despite its shallow pool of Special attacks.   Or perhaps because of its wide array of physical attacks.

Camerupt on the other hand is something completely different- while its Speed is terrible and its overall defenses are a bit lower than most would like, it has better than average Attack -and- Special Attack, enabling it to wreck most things it gets the chance to hit.  Its unusual typing (Fire/Ground) does mean that it’s only weak to Water and Ground attacks, which are usually obvious when incoming, although it has an unreliable spread of four resistances and one immunity.  Thankfully, while Magma Armor (The pokemon cannot be frozen) is a very specific and not terribly useful ability, its alternative is Solid Rock, which cuts the damage of super-effective attacks by 1/4.  This is mostly useful for Ground attacks, as Water attacks still deal a staggering 3x damage to a Solid Rock Camerupt, but it’s better than nothing and gives the beast a chance to get one good hit in- and one good hit is a very good hit when it comes from something like Camerupt.
