West of Alvin is an Ultra Ball (bet you thought it was a pokemon), and further you can find a parasol lady splashing around in a puddle.

Battle: Parasol Lady Tihana (896 Poke)
Opponent: Castform Lv 28

The ball south of her is actually a Foongus, sadly.  On the up side, the river and bridge North of her, well, aren’t.  As you cross the bridge, though, you’re stopped by a loud call of ‘Kawbraa!’

A strange blue pokemon appears out of nowhere on the ridge to the Northeast of you, calling out its cry and stopping right in front of you.  It then vanishes to the North.  Two men approach you on the bridge immediately after- one of them is the Sage Rood, who is fascinated by what you have seen.  The ‘elderly man’ alongside him puts a name to the pokemon- Cobalion.  This legendary has a story behind it which the old man told Rood the other day: It, Virizion, and Terrakion fought against people to protect pokemon from a human war.

The man explains that war between humans prevents peace for pokemon as well, and points out that the three legendary pokemon he mentioned learned of the sort of consequences human interactions could have for pokemon.  He is puzzled that it showed itself to a human, though, and suggests that this might have something to do with the Team Plasma related events two years ago- or it could be a symptom of a new problem.

Rood muses on that, declaring the effects of Ghetsis’ ambition unforgivable.  He steps up to talk to you, asking if Cobalion appeared to you accidentally, or if perhaps it was seeking your aid for something.  The Sage demures that he cannot understand pokemon the way N does, so he doesn’t know what the legendary’s purpose was in showing up, but he says the pokemon can be a great asset to you if you are able to befriend it.
