Finally, it’s time to move on.

Head West from the Deerling research facility and you will immediately be challenged by a scientist.

Battle: Scientist Jacques (1344 Poke)
Opponent: Deerling Lv 28

Check the yard to the West of the Deerling building and you can find a Moon Stone, useful for evolving certain pokemon.  Moon Stone is the preferred evolution stone for Normal types mostly (Clefable, Wigglytuff, Delcatty), but can also be used on a few odder things (Nidoking and Nidoqueen).

Another scientist waits for you on the path by the entrance to the grassy area.

Battle: Scientist Marissa (1296 Poke)
Opponent: Shelmet Lv 27, Karrablast Lv 27

Be slightly wary of Marissa’s Shelmet if you’re using a Grass or Psychic type- she applies X Special to it and it uses Struggle Bug, so if you’re slow-acting you’ll lose your ability to deal damage with many pokemon of these types while taking a lot of supereffective shots.

With Marissa out of the way, enter the grassy area and step over to the blank spot so you can pick up the Tinymushroom hidden there.  Tinymushroom is like Big Mushroom, but... well, smaller.  It’s worth a considerably smaller amount of money as well.

Cross the river to the West using the bridge and check out the Foongus hiding in the grass- they’re scattered all over this route, and all of them are level 29, which is a bit more convenient than the level 25-27 pokemon you’ve been getting jumped by in the tall grass- if you feel like using Amoongus.

There’s a boy staring into a puddle here as well- during the Summer, anyway.  The rest of the time, he’s just arbitrarily facing South unless the puddle is iced over.

Battle: School Kid Alvin (540 Poke)
Opponent: Foongus Lv 27, Karrablast Lv 27
