The next building of real note is across the street and to the North, and it contains a woman who will mimic the cry of one of your pokemon.  Identify which one correctly, and she’ll give you a Poke Toy, which can be used to automatically run away from a wild pokemon.

At this point, the road branches- the Northward road leads on to the next city, but you’ll want to divert to the West first, so you can explore more and check out the Desert Resort.

Immediately on the route West, you run across a policeman itching for a battle.

Battle: Policeman Dell (840 Poke)
Opponent: Riolu Lv 21, Growlithe Lv 21

Just past Dell is a set of stairs to the South.  Go down them and you can find another officer waiting by some rusted girders.

Battle: Policeman Neagle (880 Poke)
Opponent: Herdier Lv 22

Continue past Neagle and take a turn to the East and you can climb up some stairs- a sandy path heads North from here to an item that you may have spotted earlier when you were passing Dell.  TM 28 Dig is what you find here, and it’s very useful- not only is it a very reliable power 80 ground attack that grants a turn of invulnerability to anything but Earthquake, Fissure and Magnitude, it also can be used in any cave as a substitute for an Escape Rope, saving you money, time, and danger if you ever get into a close scrape in one of Unova’s caves.

Cross back down the stairs and through the lowered sand area (stopping midway for a Hyper Potion buried in the dark sand), and go up the stairs on the West side of the sandpit.  A thug waits here for you to the West, ready to battle.

Battle: Roughneck Silvester (550 Poke)
Opponent: Darumaka Lv 22
