Time for another walkthrough!  Hooray!

Today’s game is Pokemon Black 2, one half of the second set of 5th generation Pokemon games.  That’s a big mouthful of numbers, so let’s just go with ‘Pokemon Black 2', shall we?

The game opens, as most other Pokemon games, with an introduction to the local Pokemon professor- in this case, Professor Juniper.  She starts things off by showing you a Minccino, and explaining the very most basic elements of the creatures known as Pokemon.  She then asks you about yourself- which is to say, now is when you choose and name your player.  This game being a sequel to Black and White, unlike the other additions to previous generations, you get a selection between two completely new characters.

Once you’ve chosen and named your player, you are allowed to name your main rival- the default name is Hugh, though you can choose anything you like (that has seven or less characters in it).  With that done, the Professor tells you that you’re going to be recieving a Pokemon- and once you do, your journey will truly begin- a journey whose real point is to grow as a person.

Enter the opening cutscene, an actually rather pretty overview of a mid-sized city, by Pokemon standards.  After a few moments, the screen focuses on a woman walking outside the front of a house with a small garden.  A chime sounds, and she answers what appears to be some sort of telephone.  She has a brief conversation with someone named ‘Aurea Juniper’ about a Pokedex and her child- who, it turns out, is already there... somewhere.  After a brief mention of ‘Bianca’ and a large green hat, she enters the house- her home- and calls for you, because she is your mother.

This turns control over to you- in what appears to be a brand new room; your bed is noted as new, some basic instructions are on the laptop sitting on the nearby table, and there is a shelf of.. Pokemon picture books?  Nearby.

You’ll need to walk out into the main part of the house, where you are stopped so your mother can talk to you.  She asks you if you know of Professor Juniper, and goes on to inquire if you want a Pokemon of your own.  While you can, technically, answer in the negative, all that happens is she acts surprised and then asks you again.

You’re not going to get out of here without a positive answer, clearly, so give a ‘yes’ and get things going.

She asks you if you know what a Pokedex is.  If you want a brief explanation, answer in the negative, but otherwise just blithely go on ahead with a ‘yes’.  Next you are asked if you want a Pokedex.  You’d rather not stand here re-answering the same questions all day, so go ahead and ‘yes’ that also.  Your mother tells you that a girl named Bianca is here to see you on Juniper’s behalf, and she can be located by her massive viridian chapeau- big green hat, that is.
