Ji is fairly pleasant to talk to, saying that you look confident- and that he’s heard good things from the training grounds. He looks forwards to working with someone so capable.
He explains that the monkeys you see attacking are called hozen. The monkeys normally much more reclusive, but they’ve come to steal supplies against some sort of coming danger. She is sure that the only real answer to this problem is to force the monkeys out of the town by killing some of them. He sees failing to defend the townsfolk as only real crime possible here, and requests that you kill eight monkeys. There’s a bit in it for you as well- a new set of pants.
Your recently gained special attacks come very much in handy here, providing you with a very quick way of taking the monkeys out, often before they get a chance to jump on your shoulders.
With the monkeys slain and fresh pantaloons warming your knees, it’s time to take on a pair of new quests from Ji- Kindling the Fire, and Fanning the Flames. Kindling the Fire has you gathering Dogwood Roots- the plants that are the source for these are among the trees to the South. Fanning the Flames needs you to go get some wind and bring it back. That’s right, pack some wind into a bag and bring it to Ji. This also lies to the South, in the Shrine of the Summer Breeze- where you need to summon a living wind and then slay it so you can collect a Fluttering Breeze.
For this quest, you’ll need to leave the path- when Li talks about ‘South of the village’, he means almost directly South- off to the West a touch, actually, which is away from the cobbled path. Fortunately, it’s not terribly far, and the trees here are nicely spaced out, so it’s not as though traveling in that direction is a hardship. Speaking of the trees, you’ll want to keep an eye on those- these -are- the dogwood trees, and the roots grow right under them.
This area is mostly occupied by foxes, but more Fe-Feng monkeys are wandering through at times, and all of them are aggressive- they serve more as a distraction and annoyance than anything else.
Once you’ve gathered enough dogwood, it’s time to find the shrine- it’s located right in the middle of the dogwood tree area, under one of the largest trees, and isn’t exactly small itself. It looks mostly like a large gray rock jutting up from beneath the tree. Use the stone that Ji gave you when he gave you the quest, and the shrine will summon a Living Breeze- this elemental is hardly more powerful than one of the local monkeys, and with the lack of a ‘Monkey on Your Back’ maneuver, it’s considerably simpler and less annoying to take down.
