In order to locate the Trainees you need to defeat in combat, you must head downhill again- this time, you need to pass the Aspiring Trainees who are practicing in the yard and head for the first building you’ve encountered thus far.  This training temple has a large class of Tushui Trainees in the ground floor, practicing together in front of an instructor, and several Huojin Trainees, practicing with each other in pairs in the corners of the main room.  If traffic is heavy at the time, you may find it a bit difficult to get a Trainee to fight before someone else has picked them up- in this case, you can choose to climb the stairs to your left.  There are several more floors to the building, each holding a number of additionall Trainees that you can face for the purpose of the quest, so with a little bit of wandering you can probably get your job done anyways.

The Trainees are relatively easy to defeat- while they have more Health than you, they lack any form of special attack, and you need only reduce them below 30 Health to secure a win- there shouldn’t be any trouble here.

You will find that rather than needing to head up the hill to Shang Xi, he has come down to meet you in the training temple, bearing a lantern on the crook of his staff.  Speak to him to complete the quest.  You soon gain an explanation- he has brought a flame with him so that you may learn ‘The Lesson of the Burning Scroll’.  You are to ready yourself, then snatch a flame from Shang Xi’s hand and run to the top of the training temple.  Once there, you are to use the flame to burn a scroll that you will find there- the Edict of Temperance.

Careful aiming of your mouse cursor and a left-click will garner you the flame, which Shang Xi is suitably impressed by your rapid capture of.  Then use the stairs I mentioned before to hustle your way up to the top of the temple.  The Edict in question is located on a balcony, indicated by the rising sparkles it emits.  Go to it and it will be set aflame automatically by the fire in your hand.  With the utterly obstacle-less quest complete, return to Shang Xi at the temple’s ground floor.  He explains that taking the flame easily as you did is impressive- and that the Edict of Temperance is a relic of peaceful time, which no longer has a place in the world as it is, full of conflict.  Your setting the scroll alight is symbolic of the Pandaren accepting that their world is now one at war, and the guides and laws of peacetime no longer apply properly to how life should be lived.

Quest complete, you are moved on to ‘The Disciple’s Challenge’.  Shang Xi says that he sees much potential in you, and despite your small amount of training he believes you ready for a greater challenge- you are to head to the far side of the temple, down the stairs, and across the bridge.  You need to then find Jaomin Ro, one of the eldest and most experienced students and defeat him in combat.  This garners you a set of fancy handguards and completes the first part of your training.
