Guild Wars 2 – Sins of the Father

This is the fifth and final part of the Sorcerous Shaman Father storyline for Charr. With everything settled here it is time to head into the Black Citadel and over to the Ruins of Rin. It is here you will find the start of the instance. If you have that Waypoint, just use it and head to the Southwest. It will not be long before you find the path over to the next part of the instance.

To get to the Ruins of Rin, head Southwest through the center of the Black Citadel. Head to the Junker's Waypoint and go west from there. You will find the Elevator to the Gladium Canton. Take it down. Head to the South, you can the Gladium Waypoint while you are here as well.  From there just head to the elevator along the southern wall. It will take you down to Rin. From there just head to the Southwest and you will find the beginning of the instance.

Head just a little way in to find your father. Time to learn what is going on here:
Hero: “Smodur's eye! What is this place?”
Clement Forktail: “My old workshop. Mergath and I developed new magical attacks here. This is where he'll perform the perform the ritual.”
Hero: “Can he really klill the tribunes and imperator from here?”
Clement: “Absolutely. I taught him well. He was my right hand. He'll use the prisoners as fuel for the ritual. They'll die in flames.”
Hero: “Then we'd better free them right now.”

Head into the cavern. You will see 3 groups of Charr captured in Flame Prisoners. Go and break one of them. When you do 2 Flame Legion Stalkers and a Smoke Shaman will appear, all Lvl. 19. Turn to the next Flame Prison and break it as well. Once again you have Flame Legion Bladestorms, and a Fire Shaman. The third and final prison will reveal 4 Axe Fiends and a Lava Shaman.

Now head back to the first prison. The prisoner will thank you but then they will become a Fire Elemental and attack you. All of them will. Thankfully this is a slow process so you can easily wipe out one group before the next one turns. The distance between then is enough that pulling one should not be much of a concern. Each group is at least 5 Fire Elementals to take down. Just keep going as long as you can. It is not too hard to get through the whole set.

When you have then Mergath will make his appearance:
Shaman Mergath Flarekin: “What are you doing here? This was your plan, your ritual! You've ruined everything!”
Hero: “Not everything Mergath. You're still alive. But we can fix that.”
Mergath: “Forktail, I can't believe you'd betray your old warband and the entire Flame Legion for this cub.”
Clement: “This cub gave me a chance, and I'm making the most of it. I'm not a slave anymore.”
Mergath: “How touching. But I doubt that changes the odds for you two. You never did have the stomach for murder.”
Hero: “Not murder – justice. My father is trying to redeem himself. Too bad you'll never get that chance. Let's end this!”

Now it is onto fighting Mergath himself. He gives himself over to the Flame and becomes a massive burning effigy. He is very sturdy and takes a lot of damage to bring down. Keep your distance for anything less than a heavily armored fighter. Put your best ranged forward and make sure you have some healing over time. This guy can inflict a lot of pain on you.

Pound him as best you can. You need to watch your health intently. Still, he does not change his attack pattern much throughout the fight.

Once the fight is over there are a few conversations to happen:
Clement: “At last. I hope this redeems me. But now you'd better take me back to the stockade before Seneca locks us both up.”
Hero: “I have a better idea: come to Hero's Canton with me. I'll couch for you to Tribune Brimstone. After he knows what we did, maybe he'll pardon you.”
Clement: “Don't throw away your future. You could wind up branded a Flame Legion sympathizer – or a traitor, like me.”
Hero: “I trust Rytlock to hear us out before he decides. What do you have to lose?”
Clement: “Fine. I'll return to the Citadel and wait for your word, and … thank you. For everything.”

Head back to the Black Citadel and up to the Imperator's Waypoint. Just head over to the South. You will find the entrance to the final part of the storyline.
Seneca the Relentless: “Forktail didn't murder you? I hope this means you stopped the Flame Legion. Where's my prisoner?”
Hero: “In Hero's Canton. We couldn't have done with without his help. I recommend we reduce his sentence to time already served.”
Seneca: “Forget it. Your sire's sentence is for life. I'll release him when he's dead, not before.”
Rytlock Brimstone: “That's not your call. If Forktail saved the tribunes and the imperator, I want to hear about it.”
Hero: “Forktail risked his life for the citadel. We owe our success to him. And he's no longer a threat. I'd stake my life on it.”
Rytlock: “Good enough. I authorize Forktail's release. You can give him the good news yourself, if you like. See to it, Seneca.”
Seneca: “I must protest Tribune. This isn't –”
Rytlock: “I said 'see to it,' Seneca. Or you'll make me very angry. It's not easy to stand up for a betrayer. I know. You've proven your loyalty and your value to the Citadel once again, Legionnaire. I've got big plans for you. When they're ready, I'll send for you.”
