Guild Wars 2 – Time for a Promotion
With everything squared away with the supplies, as they are, it is time to head back to the Black Citadel. You need to report in about the Flame Legion attack and the Blood Legion Turncoats. Head up to the center of the Black Citadel and take the elevator down near Memorial Waypoint. As you exit the elevator you will find the enterance to the next instance in the sequence.
Inside the instance you will find your friend just to the South of the starting point. Head that way to start toward your Legionnaire. You can have a quick word with Rytlock Brimstone. You have a few options when talking with him in terms of personality. After that it is time to face up to your commanding officer:
Rytlock Brimstone: “Well, well. If it isn't the brace soldier that aided in Barradin's crypt.
Hero: “Good to see you again, Tribute Brimstone. If you'll excuse me, I need to speak to Steelbane.”
Hero: “Reporting in, Legionnaire. Tela Range was compromised, crawling with Flame Legion. The supplies were destroyed.”
Urvan Steelbane: “In other words, you failed. Again. By the claw of Khan-Ur, give me one reason whu I shouldn't just kill you now!”
Hero: “Go ahead and try it. You hadn['t have the spine. You're done, Steelbane. Either you step down as legionnaire, or I'll knock you into the dirt myself.”
Urvan: “You want my job you miserable little puke? Earn it. Get down there and fight. Show me what you've got, and maybe I'll show you how a real legionnaire fights! Gather 'round, troops, Watch me crush this little munity and teach you all a lesson in respect!”
Rytlock: “Gladiators, to the arena!”
When the fighting starts you need to go up against the following foes:
4 Gladiators:
These are a mixed group. You need to keep moving around or let them gather to you and use area effects. Choose whichever course of actions will work the best for your build and playstyle.
Champion Vita Vitalgore
She is a good fighter and keeps on the move.
Giant Devourer
This thing proves it be quick challenging. It might not always move a lot but it can do some serious damage. It will attack quickly and do a good bit of damage each time. Keeping at range it will just start and keep throwing rocks at you. Dodge them to avoid the worst of the damage for this overall. From there just pelt it with your best ranged attacks or move in for the kill itself. Just pound away and dodge. This thing is tough but it will go down in a minute or so.
Before the very last fight begins, Rytlock has some words with Legionnaire Steelbane:
Rytlock Brimstone: “Outstanding. I'd say this soldier exceeded expectations. What do you say, Steelbane?”
Urvan: “Uh ...”
Rytlock: “He's so impressed he's speechless! Haha. Now, now get in that ring and fight Steelbane, or I'll split you open myself.”
Urvan: “Uh … yes, sir … Tribute.”
Rytlock: “I can't hear you Legionnaire!”
Urvan: “Yes, sir!
Rytlock: “A formal challenge Steelbane. This soldier's willing to fight to the death. How about you?”
Urvan: “Prepare to be impressed, Tribune. I am going to make an example out of this whimper cub.”
Legionnaire Urvan Steelbane
When you defeat Steelbane you will have a choice. You can either kill him in the name of disciple or you can cast him out from the Warband. If you spare him he will wisely back off and run away. This has a minor impact on the dialogue that follows:
Rytlock Brimstone: “Steelbane wasn't fit to command. Congratulations on your promotion, Legionnaire.”
Killing Urvan Steelbane:
Rytlock Brimstone: “Even the most glorious revolution is just a successful mutiny, hm? Congratulations on your promotion, Legionnaire.”
Both:
Hero: “Thank you, Tribune. I'll rebuild this Warband and live up to your trust. I promise you that.”
Rytlock: “Good. Now for your first orders. Replenish your Warband with honorable gladium. Earn their trust.
Hero: “Yes, sir. Any recommendations?”
Rytlock: “Fyon the Wraith and Soure Doomsday. Both are good soldiers who've fallen on hard times. I'll give you a full briefing when you're ready.”
With that it is time to head on over to Rytlock Brimstone in the southern portion of the Bane. Talk with Rytlock to have this conversation:
Rytlock: “Very well, Legionnaire. You've got two solid choices: Soure Doomsday, or Fyon the Wraith. Thoughts?”
Hero: A) “Tell me about Fyon the Wraith, sir?” B) “What's the report on Soure Doomsday? What did he do?”
Rytlock A) “Fyon's Warband spent decades in Ascalon hunting ghost, until they were caught in an ambush. Only Fyon survived. He's a hardened veteran, good with blades, more stealthy than you'd expect from Blood Legion. A little old, perhaps, but still kicking.”
Hero C) “Sounds like what our Warbands needs. Where is he?” B) “What about Soure?”
Rytlock C) “Near the Decimus Stones. He says he wants revenge on the ghosts that killed his Warband, but I suspect he's looking to join them in death. You'll have to give him something worth living for.”
Rytlock B) “Soure's a talented necromancer. He was training for covert ops until his Warband found him meeting with Flame Shamans. They accused him of treason. I suspect he was just over-eager.
Hero D) “So a mistrusted gladium needs a home, and my Warband needs talent.” A) “And what about Fyon the Wraith.”
Rytlock D) “Not just mistrusted, but mistreated. And he's fed up. The Flame Legion's been using that anger to try to turn him to their side. You'll find him by the Victory Cenotaph.”
Hero A) “What about Fyon the Wraith?” E) “Okay. I'm ready to choose.”
If you choose to add Soure Doomsday to your Warband you will embark on “Magic Users”. If you opt for Fyon the Wraith you will set out on “The End of the Line.” With all that sorted out then it is time to leave the Bane and start looking for the newest member of your Warband.
