Guild Wars 2 – Beneath the Cold Moon

Head to the northern part of the village of Astorea. It is time to enter the instance and help mount a defense against the pending Nightmare Court attack.

Once inside the instance, head on up the slope to the left. Approach Caithe and the mission will begin:
Hero: “I came as quickly as I could. I wish Tiachren had come with us. Maybe he'll be able to turn Ysvelta back and arrive after the battle?”
Caithe: “Impossible. She made her choice. And now, he's made his. They are lost to us. We move on.”
Hero: “How can you be so cold?”
Caithe: “It's simple. Love leaves you. People die. Such is life. If we allow loss to rule our actions, then we are dead as well. Come. The village of Astorea needs us more than the dead do.”

Head on over to the Northwest and follow the path straight to Mender Aviala. She is given a quick speech to those gathered. After that it is time to set into those who are coming at you.

The battle starts simply enough. You have all the present villagers backing you up. The first wave has 6 Courtiers, all lvl. 10. Tear into them and keep a focus on where the various parties are. When the first wave is through Mender Aviala has some news for you. She has 3 sets of reserve units: Plant Wolves, Drakes and Archers.

The second wave will begin just after you choose what it call in. This one has a lot number of Hounds and at least 4 handlers mixed in there. The second part of that wave has more Courtiers but only a pair of jaguars. This are faster and stronger. After them comes a good tide of Courtiers: 6 of them.

As this wave pounds onto the defenses of the town, Aviala will call to you and ask you call out one of the two remaining reserve units. Make your choice.

It is not too long after that she will call out the final reserve unit. You have another good dozen Courtiers to tear though. They have some back up in the form of some spiders and more of their own kind.

When the fighting stops, both Tiachren and Ysvelta will make their appearance:
Hero: “Ysvelta and Tiachren. They're both in Nightmare's grasp.”
Caithe: “He's a fool. Nothing comes back Nightmare. He's sacrificed hall that he was to be with her.”
Hero: “He loved her too much.”
Caithe: “Or his soul and dignity too little.”
Ysvelta: “Ah, beloved. At last, we are together. We'll never be parted again!”
Tiachren: “Let us celebrate our union with fire and blood. We'll make the Pale Tree gorge herself upon the pain of these dreamers!”

After that little scene, Ysvelta will splinter into numerous images of herself and Tiachren will come charging in. Lay into them with area effects and attack whoever is closest to you. Just blast away. Focus on whoever is closest to you.

After the fight the Hero and Caithe will have a little conversation:
Hero: “Poor Tiachren. I'm so sad everything turned out this way. I hope that he and Ysvelta can rest in peace.”
Caithe: “Stop grieving for fools. The let love kill them.”
Hero: “Caithe! How can you say such things? What happened to make you so bitter? Did you lose someone to nightmare, too?”
Caithe: “I … yes. But the lesson remains. Love can blind you and you to to dangerous darkness. Now they're together in it.”
Hero: “I sense you still suffer the pain of loss. If it hurts you despite the passage of time, the love you had must have been beautiful. Isn't that worth cherishing?”
Caithe: “Perhaps. But, from my vantage point, those leaves are a different color. Maybe one day, I will share it with you. Not today.”
Hero: “I don't mean to dwell on it. Astorea is safe. May lives were spared, and we've driven Nightmare back into its corner.”
Caithe; “For now, yes. But we must look to the future – and I believe  the Morther Tree would be particularly interested in yours. We should speak with her. Meet me in the Grove.”

With that, it is time to head into the Grove and up to the Omphalos Chamber at the height of the Pale Tree. Once you make it there it is time to talk with the Avatar of the Pale Tree and her guardians. Once in the safe haven of the Pale Tree it is time to talk:

Avatar of the Pale Tree: “Greetings, my valorous child. Caithe has told me of your deeds. I'm so proud of you.”
Hero: “I'm honored to meet you, Mother Tree. I dreamt of the symbol on Tiachren's hield, and when we met, I knew I had to help him. Is that because of you?”
Pale Tree: “No, dear heart. I do not control the Dream. I am simply its caretaker.”
Kahedis: “The tale of the Knight of the Moon and his beloved will be told in the Grove, to inspire others. Your victory will be remembered.”
Pale Tree: “An excellent suggestion. Let the lesson be that love itself is not evil, even if others try to make it so.”
Hero: “If I may ask, Mother – in my dream, I also saw a fierce, horrible dragon. I've been told it is my Wyld Hunt to face this monster. Is that true?”
Pale Tree: “I fear that it is. A Wyld Hunt is a sacred thing, a burden placed by the Dream upon the strongest and bravest of my children. In your Dream, toy fought an Elder Dragon face-to-face. Only two of my children have had such a dream: You, and Caithe. All Sylvari fight the dragon's servants, the undead, but I believe you will face Zhaitan itself. I also believe you will prevail.”
Hero: “I understand, Mother. Thank you.”
Kahedis: “Be proud of your victory, Valiant. Spend your leisure in learning and in well deserved joy.”

With that done, this story line is completed for you. It is time to move on to the next story line!
