Guild Wars 2 – Black Night, White Stag

Head back to the Grove, the city beneath the pale Tree. It is strange to think the Nightmare Court would attack here for the wounded pride but that is how it goes. Head to your home instance down on the bottom level of the Grove.

Once inside the instance head in and over to the left. There you will find Caithe calling over to you. She tells you that the Wardens are on edge as the Nightmare Court gathers just outside the Grove. Choose the first option of “What should we expect?” to begin the assault by the Nightmare Court. They will start to come up through the ground.

The assault will come from the Northern and Eastern chambers. From the North you have a good 4 Nightmare Court Jaguars. From East you will have 4 Thorn Wolves and a Spider. All of these are lvl. 10 foes. In addition to all that there are 4 archers in the ramp above you that are firing down onto the floor below.

When most of the animals have been cleared out is when the Courtiers will start to show up. The first wave has 4 Courtiers in it. Half of them are ranged and the other half are melee The second wave is much the same. The difference is one or two of the ranged fighters will try to get  up onto the ramp in the home instance. Just focus on whoever presents the largest threat to you. During this time a few more ranged fighters will sneak up through the adjoining chambers. Once you get through the 3 waves of Courtiers it is time to find Sariel.

Head over to the East and start up the ramp it is there you will find Sariel. She and Caithe exchange a few words. It becomes apparent whatever was between them is nothing but bad blood now. She leaves though Gavin gets in a final shot on her, with a ground pound. A cutscene follows where Gavin speaks with the hero:
Gavin: “My friend, I apologize for Sariel's behavior. She's young. She hasn't learned to temper her power with wisdom.”
Hero: “What is there to understand? The Nightmare Court is evil, it's destructive. You and Sariel are two of a kind.”
Gavin: “You wound me. I am nothing like Sariel. She is an honorless craven, and I have been your friend. The court doesn't seek to destroy either the Sylvari or the Pale Tree. We're trying to free you from the influence of Ventari's Tablet.”
Hero: “You want to use the white stag to corrupt the Dream. You would turn this beautiful creature into a weapon!”
Gavin: “Yes, for the greater good. Let me prove the Nightmare Court has honor. Duel me. For the winner: the white stag. For the defeated: death.”
Hero: “Very well Gavin. I accept your challenge and your terms. Let's begin.”

Head into the middle of your home instance and get ready. It is time to fight Gavin. He will bear you no ill will and treat you with due courtesy. It is time to fight. Gavin fights with a shield and mace. Hand him carefully and move as appropriate.. Drain him down to half and he will start to run up the ramp toward the top of your home.

After the fight there is time for one more conversation with Caithe:
Caithe: “Victory. The Nightmare Court will not try this particular tactic again.”
Hero: “Now the white stag will be safe.”
Caithe: “For now, but soon enough the court will find another to draw the Dream into Darkness. Faolain loves to cultivate misery.”
Hero: “Sounds like you have history with this court and the Grand Duchess Faolain. Will you tell me the tale?”
Caithe: “I knew her once, but I don't know her anymore. What matters is that you've down well, Valiant. Enjoy the moment. Come. One image in your dream has been resolved, but the other – the dragon – remains to be deciphered. Our mother wishes to see the white stag and I intend for youto be there as well. It is time you met the Pale Tree.”
Hero: “I'd be honored Caithe. I'll see you there.”

Now head on up to the Omplalos Chamber. It is time to meet the Pale Tree's Avatar:
Avatar of the Pale Tree: “Greetings my most valorous child. The white stag spoke to me of your deeds. I'm so proud of you.”
Hero: “I'm honored to meet you Mother Tree. I knew I had to protect the stag – I saw it in my dream. Is that because of you?”
Pale Tree: “No, dear heart. I do not control the Dream. I am simply its caretaker.”
Malomedies: “If you will it Mother, the stag can stay in the garden. There, it can take its ease in the shadows, free from the dangers it has braved.”
Pale Tree: “An excellent suggestion. He will very happy there and often reunited with his defender.”
Hero: “If I may ask, Mother - in my dream, I also saw a fierce, horrible dragon. I've been told it is my Wyld Hunt to face this monster. Is that true?”
Pale Tree: “I fear that it is. A wyld hunt is a sacred thing, a burdened placed by the Dream upom the strongest and the bravest of my children. In your Dream you fought an Elder Dragon face to face. Only two of my children have ahad such a dream: You, and Caithe. All Sylvari fight the dragon's servants, the undead, but I believe you will face Zhaitian itself. I also believe you will prevail.
Hero: “I understand, Mother. Thank you.”
Malomedies“Be proud of your victory this day, Valiant. But remember, peace is short-lived. You will be needed again – likely very soon.”

That will conclude this story line. Talk with Caithe to begin the next one: a chance to live up to a piece of Ventari's Teachings: “Act with Wisdom but act” (After the Storm), “All things have a right to grow” (Wild Growth), and “Where life goes, so too should you” (Where Life Goes)
