Guild Wars 2 – Train with the Militia

“Talk with Sergeant Soto to train with rifles, Sergeant Neal to train with Swords and Sergeant Liddy to train with shields.”

Head into the Township of Claypool and head just to the Southeast of the Waypoint. There you will find Captain Lindel. Talk with her to learn something more of what is happening around here:
Captain Lindel: “Hey, you're 'Hero's Name', aren't you? Maybe you can help me train these refugees into a working militia.”
Hero A) “What do you need me to do, Captain?” B) “Refugees?” C) “How do you know who I am?”
Lindel A) “I'm sure these simple drills are far below your talents, but if you ran a few with my sergeants it might inspire the trainees.”
Lindel B) “Walled villages like Claypool are a havor for those who lost everything to bandits and centaurs.”
Hero A) “How can I help?”
Lindel C) “The Seraph has received reports from Captain Thackeray on your progress. You're kind of hard to miss, equipped as you are.”
Hero A) “I see. So what's going on here?”
Hero D) “I'll show them how it's done. What do I do exactly?” E) “It's not going so well, is it?”
Lindel D) “Sergeant Soto, over there, can tell you how to drill with rifles. Sergeant Neal is running sword drills, and Sergeant Liddy can get you started on shields.”
Hero E) “Tell me, how's the training going so far?”
Lindel E) “We're making progress. Some of these poor fools didn't know which end of the sword to hold when they got here.”
Hero F) “How do you like being in the Seraph?”
Lindel F) “I like knowing that I'm helping to keep the peace that we all cherish. It's a heavy responsibility, and I take it seriously.”

With that conversation out of the way it is time to start the training that needs to be done. Head over to the East to find the first of the 3 Sergeants: Liddy. She explains how to use a shield, that it is about precision, intuition, and quick reflexes. Grab one of the shields from the edges of the ring and apporach the Shield Drill Sergeant. He will tell you that you need to start the block just as he is beginning his attack. You will notice that he glows just before he launches his attack. He also has a set order of attack: East, West, North, South (AKA: You).

Now head over to the West to the Rifle Training Range.  Sergeant Soto explains that he wants you to pick up the rifle and fire on command. Head just to his right and grab one of the rifles. Focus on the Rifle Drill Sergeant who is to the right of the targets. These rifles will fire only when you either release the skill button or the key. It does not take too much to land a few hits and make a lot of progress on this quest.

One more station to visit. Head over to the North one more. Here you will find the Sword Area. Sergeant Neal will instruct you to grab one of the swords and then target his Drill Sergeant. Just grab one of the swords and turn your focus over to the Sword Drill Sergeant. You need to focus on whether or not she is kneeling. If she is kneeling then she is in her defensive position. Wait for her to stand then attack her. It will only take a little while to get the hang of it.

When you complete this quest you will get the letter, “Best Regards” with 68 Copper attached to it:
“Honestly, I wasn't sure someone of your reputation would stick around to help my militia. I'm impressed and honored that you did.

Thank you and best regards – Captain Lindel”
