Pokemon Platinum Gym Series – Pastoria City

When you try to enter the gym, you will encounter your Rival who will actually not crash into you. He will want to battle you, so be ready when you make for the gym for this additional battle.

Roselia lvl. 32        Grolte lvl. 36        Monferno lvl. 36

After the battle, you will find your rival has joined the local gym leader as their apprentice. Interesting little twist there. Heal, if needed, and head into the gym. Inside you will find your coach waiting just in front of a set of stairs. This gym is interesting as you will need to raise and lower the water level to reach Crasher Wake. Of course, there are a number of trainers in the way. Try to leave any Fire/Rock/Ground types at home as they will fare poorly in this gym. Electric and Grass type moves will help the most here.

Head  straight up, across the first two wooden platforms. Head to the left, then down. You should go up some stairs with a yellow button on the left at the top. Stepping on this button causes the water to lower a level, letting you progress further. There is a trainer just to the right, so feel free to beat him. This is Tuber Jacky, who will start with a Bibarel. Now, head down the stairs near him and follow this path, going up the next set of stairs. There you will find the next trainer, Fisherman Walter. He will send out his Whiscash lvl. 33. After him, step on the Green button on the opposite side of the platform. This will cause the water level to rise and let you progress. Be sure to head down and follow the path that has opened up.

Follow this path and you will find a Sailor and a Blue button. This is Sailor Damian, who has a Wingull lvl. 31 and Pelipper lvl. 31. Now, step on the Blue Switch to raise the water level again. Head down, across the wooden platform that is now in position, and to the right, passing by the first trainer you beat. From there, head upwards, taking on Tuber Caitlyn with her Azurill lvl. 27, Marill lvl. 29 and Azumarill lvl. 31.

Cross the “bridge” and you will find another trainer looking away from you. This is Fisherman Erick, who will challenge you with his Goldeen lvl. 28, Gyarados lvl. 31 and Seaking lvl 31.  Afte rhim, walk up to the green switch and step on it, lowering the water level. Now, head downwards, using the just revealed stairs, and step on the yellow switch you see at the far end of this little passage.

Now head all the way up, to the left, down, left then up to reach the next trainer. This is Sailor Samson who will fight you with his Wingull lvl. 29, Shellos lvl. 31and Golduck lvl. 31. Step on the blue switch nearby to raise the water level, letting you cross the final bridges to Crasher Wake.

Crasher Wake:
Try to lead with a fast Electric type attack to floor the Gyarados. Given the chance, Wake will withdraw his Gyarados before it can faint and he will likely send out out his Quagsire to absorb the pending electric attack. This Pokemon is meant to counter any electrical types, exploiting their weakness to Ground type attacks. Floatzel can pose a mild threat, given the chance, so try to take it down quickly.

Potions:
Hyper Potion – 1

Gyrados lvl. 33 – Brine, Waterfall, Bite, Twister
Quagsire lvl. 34 – Mud Bomb, Rock Tomb, Water Pulse, Yawn
Floatzel lvl. 37 – Brine, Ice Fang, Crunch, Aqua Jet        Holding a SitrusBerry

After the battle, he will award you the Fen Badge, allowing you to use Surf outside of battle. He will also give you TM 55, Brine, a Water-type move that will double its power when its target is below half health. With all that taken care of, head to the left (or right) and make your way out of the gym. Trouble is stewing in peaceful Pastoria.
