Guild Wars 2 – Hammer and Steel

This mission is available if you chose to pursue the Smith who was taken by the Nightmare Court. Enter the instance at the Western end of the Sandycove Beach. Once inside the instance you will find Caithe waiting for you only a short ways ahead. Approach to trigger the next conversation.

Caithe: This is where the Nightmare Court is holding Occan. If we are to save him, Valiant, we must hurry. The court is very good at what they do.
Hero: Do you think they'll kill him? If they did that, he wouldn't be able to make them any more suits of armor.
Caithe: Kill? No. The court increase their numbers through deceit and corruption. They spread poison at the roots. Eventually, he will listen to them, and then he will fall to their lies. It's the court's purpose to poison the Dream of Dreams, and thus corrupt the Pale Tree. The darkness we saw in your Dream was one such attempt. They torture Sylvari, allowing the Dream to absorb darker, more painful memories – both from themselves and from their prey.
Hero: Until he joins them, just to make the pain stop. I see. We'd better get him out of their grasp. Immediately.
Caithe: Search the camp and do not be afraid. I will be as close as your shadow.

Head over to the West after the conversation to move toward the camp. There are 2 Courtiers waiting by the entrance with a patrolling Courtier with a Nightmare Hound. Move up once the Houndmaster has moved away and take out the pair of Courtiers.

Head through into the tunnel where the Nightmare Court is holding their prisoners. Ahead of you is a pack of 6 Hounds, with a Thorn Hound added in just for challenge. You will find also find Houndmaster Rienne among the pack. If you must engage them, she is the first target. She has a whip she loves to use but also can revive any of the downed hounds. Aside from her though it is usually going to be a single Courtier, maybe one with a Nightmare Hound.

Work your way toward the back to the Southwest. You will find Occam nearby. This is the simple part thankfully. The Smith will call over to you and ask you to break him out. Just focus on attacking his cell. It will not be long before it breaks down and Occam is free.

Occam: Here to save me, I hope.
Hero: Occam? You're more bubbly than I'd expect for someone who's been tortured.
Occam: Them? Couldn't faze me. I knew someone would come. Left plenty of clues at the forge. Quickly now, amd we'll go through the back. Less guarded.
Hero: That's exactly what Caithe suggested. How did you hear her talking from all the way over here?
Occam: Hear her? No. Simplest solution to the problem. Hurry. Courtiers will be here soon. I can forge a vine wall to keep them at bay, but you must move fast. As predicted. May courtiers approach! Vine goes … here. Run!

The Nightmare Courtiers will give chase after a while. Still the wall last more than long enough for Occam and the Hero to make it to the Southwest exit of the tunnel. Just outside the tunnel to the right you will find Caithe fiddling with something. She is laying a trap. She will tell everyone to run down the waterfall. Then she has them wait at the bottom. The poison plant at the top will explode and talk out all the nearby Nightmare Courtiers.

At the bottom the 3 will have a conversation:
Occam: Nice explosion!
Hero: I have to ask, Occam – why did you make Faolain the armor? Didn't you know she was of the Nightmare Court?
Occam: I knew but she threatened me. Said they'd break my hands, leave me useless. Take away my purpose and my joy. Still, once I saw what they'd done with my masterwork … Ugh. Disgusting. I should have thrown myself from the cliffs.
Caithe: No, the lesson here isn't so simple. There are many strands in this tapestry, and yours is only one. Now that you are safe, we can deal with Bercilak. Tell us, does your armor have a weakness?
Occam: Yes, to forge the armor it has to be vulnerable to my smithing tools. My hammer made it; my hammer can destroy it.
Caithe: Valiant, I propose that we use this information, and challenge Bercilak to a duel. Then use the smith's hammer as your weapon and smash him to paste.
Hero: Sounds good. I bet Bercilak would come for certain if he received an invation from Gairwen. Caithe, talk to her and arrange the fight. Occam, bring your hammer. We'll hold the duel at Mabon Market. I want as many witnesses as possible when Bercilak falls.
