Guild Wars 2 – Loved and Lost
“Speak with Gairwen near Morgan's Spiral”
Travel to Slieve's Waypoint. This will place you very close to Gairwen. This makes it a quick run over to her to begin this part of the quest. Once you enter the instance head to the North. As you approach Gairwen it is apparent she is praying for someone:
“My beloved Evart. You deserve better than this, but at least here you will be hidden from the villain that killed you. May your memories spread among the Dream, and may your noble spirit return, through the awakening of others. I will defend your grave with my life, if I must. If I should fall, at least I will see you once more.” Approach her once she finishes talking. It helps as that prior dialogue explains a lot.
Hero: Excuse me. Are you Gairwen? I need to speak with you about a sylvari named Bercilak.
Gairwen: Bercilak? He is a beast! He killed my beloved Evart. If you are his friend, then you're an enemy to me.
Hero: Just the opposite. Bercilak is attacking young Sylvari in the Grove, and I plan to stop him before anyone else gets hurt.
Gairwen: Oh, that's very different. You see my love was killed in a duel with Bercilak, and now I guard Evart's grave. I wish only to mourn, but Bercilak plagues me with his love sick mewling. I buried Evart here, to get away from Bercilak – but even in Morgan's Spiral, I can find no peace. The Risen are everywhere, those horrible undead creatures. Even now, they are massing to swarm over this hill.
Hero: Bercilak is killing innocents. I must find a way to defeat him – to overcome whatever tricky has made him powerful. If you help me find a way, I'll help you guard Evart's grave.
Gairwen: You would? Oh, thank you! Yes, I'll gladly tell you everything I know. You see Bercilak's armor – wait, do you hear that? Oh, no, the Risen are coming! Quickly. Prepare to fight!
After the conversation it is time to start planting seeds in rapid order. Start with the back ones nearest you. These blood in flowers that will heal you. As you move forward you will find more plots to plant seeds in. Each has a different property that can be used. Most will be either burning or freezing while the others will be trap poison plants. Get as many planted as you can. There are 3 waves to get through with some limited time to plant more seeds between. Each wave will increase the number of plants you can have, if any survived through the previous round.
Each wave will consist of at least a dozen Risen of many types. Use Area of Effect (AoE) spells to tear through the least of the Risen quickly. Most will be very small and quick to fall. Each wave will only contain a few Risen that take more than a couple hits to drop.
After the first and second wave you will be given a chance to plant more seeds. Look at your defenses quickly and figure out what is needed. It is very important to maintain and plant the 2 healers and keep a healthy supply of both Red and Blue Flowers. These are the backbone of your defenses.
It is the third wave that stands out from the others. From the left you will find a massive Risen coming at your defenses. Focus the most on this and trust to the plants for the rest. Still, use your AoE's first to quickly wipe out any of the minor Risen that are close to the big one. Just focus on it and do not stop attacking. If possible, stun, freeze or do something to prevent it from attacking. It has a nasty hit and it is something to avoid as much as possible.
Once the fighting is done then Gairwen will call your hero over. She keeps her word and tells you everything she knows about Bercilak's new armor. It was forged by the Smith Occam. Their house can be found to the South of Brigid's Overlook.
