Darksiders 2 Walkthrough Part 36 – Heart of the Mountain, Part 8

Head through Tri-Stone and Death will see the Destruction that the Guardian has left in its wake. Just head to the North, restock on anything in town then head through to the Stonefather's Vale. It is boss time in every sense of the word. Eideard can only contain the Guardian with his magic and little else.

The Guardian
Start by riding to the left of the Guardian. Redemption is automatically equipped while Death rides Despair. Focus on the Guardian as you ride. When you see the hammer being raise put on a burst of speed. Once it has come down and smashed into the ground, switch to aiming mode and shoot any of the Shadow Bombs on the Guardian's arm. It will detach it from the main body for now. Close the gap as the Guardian lowers itself to begin reattaching the arm and recover from the stun of the explosion. Use the Deathgrip, automatically equipped when Death is not on Despair, to grapple to the first Heartstone. Smash it 6 times (on Normal) to destroy the stone and remove the arm.

Time to work on the second arm. This time things are a bit different. You are still shooting at something but this time it will be shooting Grinders. The Guardian will launch them one at the time at the Horseman. The best way to evade them to ride a tight circle and focus on it. Start and keep shooting it until it begins to hover above the ground. At this point break your focus on the Grinder and turn toward the Guardian. The Grinder explodes as it smashes into the Guardian, toppling it. Time to get over to the arm buried in the ground and climb up it. At the top of this is a Beam you need to climb out to the end of. From there focus on the Heartstone, Jump and use Deathgrip to get to the Heartstone and start attacking it. After the first 3 hits the Guardian will begin to launch a pair of Grinders at Death. Just remained focused on one to make the task simpler. Just remember to fire more rapidly this time. This stone takes 6 hits to destroy.

Eideard will sacrifice himself to restore the Guardian to its proper form. It will then smash the Corruption growth that has blocked your forward progress for quite a while.

It is time to do a few side quests to level up Death and collect some nice weaponry. First, stop by Tri-Stone and visit the Serpent Tome. If you entered the Crucible Pass, it should be available now. If you have collected 10 pages from the Book of the Dead it is now a good time to turn them in. This will give Death access to the first of 4 tombs that are loaded with treasure. This tomb is found just to the East of the Lost Temple's entrance. In Baneswood you can now claim the chest against the Eastern Wall. Heading with the ledge around to the South of the chest will let you collect a Boatman's Coin easily. In the Fjord you can claim another chest around the harbor there. Just start climbing from the Northern Wall with Deathgrip. Keep climbing after the Prowlers on the Southern Wall. Follow the path around to the chest. After getting the loot turn back to the railing on the northern side of this ledge. Look doing into the dock itself. About the middle you will spot a floating Boatman's Coin. Jump toward it to grab it.

In side areas: the Omega Blades in the Shattered Forge can now be claimed. It is possible to reach and kill Gorewood and Bheithir, but not collect everything inside the areas.
