Gaia Online and ZOMG Panel Fanime 2010

Much like Wondercon, there was a panel offered on Gaia Online and ZOMG. There were a few announcements we managed to catch while at the panel though were quite interesting. The first was the introduction of Dumpster Diving. Inspired by one of the employees of Gaia Online, soon, all items put into the trash will no longer be deleted, instead they will go into a dumpster. From there, anyone can jump in and start poking around to find anything in there. This will make it a little easier for beginning users to start building their cash base or collecting various items that they want.

They also announced in the Gaia Online labs they were presently working on Achievements. You can get these for posting, playing games, submitting art or contribute in any number of ways. They said that this was their way to recognize all that the players and users had been doing for them. In a way, it will simply be encouraging what the users are already doing, but giving a more visible form to it. As they gain the achievements, there will be badges and other little things visible around their avatar.

Around ZOMG, we received news of a few updates. The first was a redo of the training area and the Gnome General Instance. This was followed by the announcement of Vampire NPCs and a Vampire Boss, Kamila. After that, they told us a bit about Buccaneer Boardwalk. It will be opening this year with a great number of games, NPC’s and things to do. It will also present one of the great internet questions, who will win, Pirates or Ninjas? Following that, they showed us two animations that were tied to something they would not mention. Next they unveiled that rare item recipes would soon be available for those lucky enough to find them or by participating in the ZOMG screen splash contest. These recipes will be hard to find, but the result will be well worth the effort. The last announcement for ZOMG was the Barton Coliseum going live. It would offer five different encounters with five different difficulty settings.
