Fanime 2010 – Overview
Fanime is always something of a cross between journalism and personal interest. Fanime offers some previews for select games and media producers of things coming this year but it still remains as they say, “By Fans, For Fans”. We attended a good number of panels and events with our time at the convention. First was the Aksys games panel, learning about their upcoming games and a few facts about them, then we took in both the Artist Alley and the Dealer’s Room, seeing who had come and what they had to offer. Halolz, who offer the Murderkarp shirt, were there. We had a brief but pleasant conversation, talking about the shirts and our various ventures. There was a lot of anime, manga, weaponry and just great cosplay to be found at all of those.
The next event was a wonder to attend; Fanime hosted a party to commemorate the convention’s sixteenth anniversary. We found ourselves talking with a lot of staff and learning something of the history of the convention itself. After that, we tracked down and attended a Pokemon Cosplay Gathering. This event let us see not only a great many characters and Pokemon brought to life from the game, but some original interpretations on them. With all our coverage of Pokemon, it was a wonderful event to attend, seeing all of those Pokemon and trainers. Following that, we briefly attending a panel on Gaia Online and ZOMG, learning quite a bit on pending updates. The trip was concluded with three very notable panels, Cthulhu For President, Whose Line is it “Fanime” and Neon Genesis Evangelion: REdeath. Cthulhu for President was a satire of campaigning while Whose Line is it "Fanime" presented a Fanime themed Improv Show. Neon Genesis Evangelion: REdeath was a fan made parody of the the Eva series as an audience participation show.
As always, Fanime was a blast to attend. There were a great number of events that we simply did not have time to attend this year. Many good bargains could be found as could some rare treasures. For the four days the convention runs, there is always something new to do.
