Wondercon 2010

Wondercon will always hold some place in my heart for conventions. It is the one time of year I get to learn about a lot of great movies, see many inspiring people, some costumes but always a large number of collectables. This year had a number of notable guests, like Nicholas Cage, Peter S. Beagle, Max Brooks, Kevin Smith and several other note worthy people.

The Rarity Guide crew met up early Friday to scope out the floor and attend a few panels. We first went to the Gaia Online Fan Gathering out of curiosity. After that, we started to explore the exhibit hall. There, we found many booths offering old video games, usually at a higher price. It was here we found Geek Chic. This one booth stood out because in a convention like Wondercon, as seeing furniture like tables or dressers does not fit completely with the general theme. Still, it offered something unique all the same. After a nice conversation, we continued to investigate the Exhibition floor. Many small businesses were out there, and many people were working at selling their comics and collectables. After a while, we made our way over the Capcom booth and subsequent panel. The panel proved to be fairly informative about many upcoming games like Super Street Fighter 4, Mega Man Zero Collection, Lost Planet 2 and a few others. Overall though, Friday was a slow day with little happening in terms of events. We concluded the day attending the panel hosted by Kevin Smith. It had been a number of years since he had been able to make it to Wondercon but the wait was worth it.

Wondercon 2010

Saturday proved to be very busy. We only had a little time before the movie previews started to check the exhibition hall. After some confusion with Convention Staff, we made our way to the Ballroom and Press area of it. From there, we saw a number of previews, many of which are covered in the articles related to this Convention. This included “The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Splice”, “Inception”, “Kick Ass” and “Resident Evil 3D: Afterlife”. Warner Brothers also gave out some gift bags to those who stuck around for the duration of all of the panels. This included a number of t-shirts for their upcoming releases and a few little trinkets as well. This was followed by checking the exhibition hall once more, meeting and greeting with a few people at various booths. It will never cease to amaze me just how many previews one can sit through in just one day. This night concluded with the Wondercon 2010 Masquerade. There were a number of great costumes to be seen. There were also a good number of very entertaining acts as well.

For those two days that we attended, it was a blast. Wondercon is a great time to find out about some of the big movies that are coming out and to see what one can find in the Exhibition Hall. It is the first convention of the year we also attend, so it is a good start. It is one I look forward to going to next year.
