Resident Evil: Afterlife Panel – Wondercon 2010

If there is one video game movie franchise that has the potential to surprise people, it would be Resident Evil. While there have been a number of movies based on video games, only a few have reached two, let alone three theatrical releases. And now it broaches onto its fourth theatrical release with Resident Evil Afterlife. With the panel, they had Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter and director Paul S.W. Anderson.

Anderson loves the Resident Evil franchise. He wanted to make an epic Resident Evil movie, traveling around the globe to shoot it. It was also a great movie to take advantage of the 3D technology. When she was asked about it Jovovich agreed that she liked her part in it and found it rewarding to be able to play the same part so many times. She said it helped her really get a feel for the character. It let her take Alice to a different level. Prior she had only experienced playing a part once for other movies and she felt it rewarding to be able to do so.

Something asked about was the fear and reactions they needed to have in the film. Jovovich told us how it just felt like a constant chase for the film and several other pieces she had been in. Larter simply talked about how it helped the movie was not shot in sequence and involved a lot of green screen.

One big question for both Jovovich and Larter was what their training was like. While the pair did not directly answer the question, they both talked about how the ladies in the movie got to be the big heroes. Both tried to do their own stunts whenever they could. One specific example Jovovich gave was receiving her training with Charlie Guns to use the wide assortment of weaponry Alice got to use in the film. Part of that was he took her to his armory and just let her fire a wide assortment of them.

When asked about their future projects, each had something to say. Larter aims to return to another season of “Heroes”. Jovovich replied that she was working on her own independent film called “Dirty Girl”. Anderson said he was working on his own version of “The Three Musketeers”.
