Game of Thrones Walkthrough Part 54 – Alester – A New Hope, Part 8

After your talk with Elyana, she points you to Maester Harwyn. Before you go anywhere though, look at the scroll beside the throne inside the castle. That scroll contains a “Westeros Archive” and a Seal of Knowledge. This archive adds the “House Sarwyck” entry.

Head over to the East and over the stairs to reach the Maester who is at the table. There are a few chests to loot that have silver in them. These are found in the corners of the room. After that, talk with the Maester. You can tell him the truth or delay the conversation some. This will lead to a discussion where the Maester reveals much about the events that happened the day before your father's death, when Raynald disinherited Gawen.

The Legacy Conversation
Objective: “Gawen is unworthy of the title of lord! Return to your office and make good on your threat!”
Head South to the end of the table and turn to the West, going up the stairs. Continue up the next set to the South and work your way farther back into the keep. Harwyn and Raynald will talk of Alester and Elnaya. When you arrive at the study, Raynald announces Gawen's disinheritance and chases him from the castle itself. Harwyn gives Alester the keys to the keep so he can access any number of doors around it.

You can now start the “Rings and Chains” side quest by talking with Elyana in the Courtyard.

Objective: “The object of your search is likely to be concealed in the secret passage leading from your father's office. Find a way to access it.
Raynald's Study
A thing of note from earlier in the game. If you gave away the castle's food stores, you will hear that the Lannister shield your Father kept had been sold to replenish the stores in the castle. If you did not give the food away then Alester can claim it.

There is a good bit to this office and something more than meets the eye as well. First, investigate the bookcase. Alester will not find anything there. The same will be said for the book by the fireplace and the documents on your father's desk. They are not out in the open, this means they are hidden away. First, use the Vision of R'hllor behind the desk. This will reveal a curious door. Look at the note to the “Engima of the keys” letter. This contains hints as to where to find the 7 keys needs to open the door. The second option is revealed by talking with Maester Harwyn. He hints to it being around your father's neck in the crypt.

Your Father's Key
Head into the Throne Room and over to the Southwest. There you will find the Tunnels Behind Riverspring. Head into them and continue to the Southeast. Head to the very end of the hall, over to the one tomb that has candles by it. You will notice 2 points of interaction. The one of the left gives your father's name while the one on the right allows you to claim the pendant you need to open the secret passage.

Alester will regret what he has done a bit. You will get the trait: “Morbid Curisosity” which gives: Chance of loot +2%
