After freeing Largo from his prison near the first port town in Tacarigua, you will have the option of escorting him to the pirate base or letting him go by himself. If you decide that you would like to go along with Largo, you will receive this quest, called Follow Largo.

This quest is actually more difficult than it sounds, although Largo cannot actually die, not permanently anyway. Instead of dying, he will hobble over on the ground just like you would when you pick a fight with a tough NPC. After the current battle ends, he will stand up and keep going. Still, you will have to wade through a lot of animals in the forest, especially if you haven’t done so already in the name of hunting or boredom. Largo will choose a path for himself, so you should simply follow him to find the way forward. Just don’t expect any help from the emancipated pirate; he is unarmed, and thus unable to help you out during fights.

Along the way, you will run into warthogs, termites, and claw monkeys. These enemies are all weak enough that you don’t have to worry too much about them, unless they flank around you and attack from multiple sides at the same time. In order to prevent this, try to rotate the camera around quickly enough that you can catch enemies advancing from your sides or from behind with a quick slash to knock them back, before switching around and resuming your attack against the last enemy lest he get in a free blow while your back is turned.

After wading through a few of these basic enemies, Largo will lead you into a camp full of Savages. As their name suggests, these lawless brutes are quite hostile and will take your intrusion none too kindly. You will now have to take on all of these opponents by yourself. If you are having trouble with this section of the quest, note that a good strategy can be to simply let Largo die. While the Savages all focus on your ward, you can take a step back and fire into the fray with firearms or Voodoo, or you can sneak up behind them and score a few free hits to their backs while they are distracted. As mentioned earlier, Largo cannot die permanently, so feel free to use him as bait.

After defeating the Savages, keep your hand ready over the space bar. The next groups of enemies won’t be as brutal as the Savages who you just killed, but you will have to watch out for a trap in the next leg of your journey. The trap will always target you and not Largo, so it’s best to simply be ready. There isn’t any way to avoid it, either, other than hitting space at the right time.

When you finally reach the pirate camp, Largo will position himself in the tavern, where you will be able to find him from now on.  If you never opened the front gate and instead went into the pirate camp through Blake’s side, your journey will be a little bit longer as Largo will use this side route instead of the front door. You will have to fight through a few more enemies along the way. When you come up to the main gate is a good time to heal if you need to use any grog or provisions. After escorting Largo all the way to the pirate camp, you will receive a measly 10 Glory points for completing the quest. The real reward of this quest is the large amount of Glory that you will have received from slaughtering all of the enemies in your path.

Note that even if you do not choose to escort Largo to the pirate’s hideout, the escaped prisoner will still make it to the tavern in one piece.
