One of your first tasks on the island of Tacarigua should be to find a map. This is not a necessary step to complete, but it will prove so helpful that it might as well be. When you first get off of the ship and try to enter the port town, you will be blocked by a suspicious guard. Tell him what you want; it doesn’t really matter. He won’t trust you, but he will ask you to help him out with some raider problems. Tell him that you will help him out, but don’t take this quest on until later, when we will cover it in our guide. You will probably be vastly out-leveled if you try to take care of the pirate raiders for the guard captain right away. Instead, focus your attentions on finding the basics: A map, some pirate clothes, and some provisions for your future crew.

In order to get the ball rolling on all of these tasks, head into the port city ahead. Find the NPC named Pedro; he will be reading from a list on a piece of parchment in the town square, directly to the left of the two arguing businessmen. Speak with him to get a big list of different conversation options. Ask him about each of the options, including the map, clothing, and where to find the pirates. Pedro will tell you that you can speak with governor Di Fuego to purchase a map of the island. The governor, conveniently enough, lives in the house directly to the right of Pedro, the entrance to which will be situated right behind the arguing businessmen. As you leave Pedro, remind him where he was in his counting when you interrupted him. You can mess him up by giving him the wrong answer (28,) which is kind of humorous, but it is actually much more beneficial to you to give him the correct answer, 29. This will reward you with a whopping 100 Glory points.

Obtaining a map won’t be as simple as just asking for one, though. You will find that if you walk into Di Fuego’s manor right now, looking as you do, and request an audience with the governor, his guards will let you upstairs but once there Di Fuego will refuse to talk with you, claiming that you look like a savage and can’t possibly have the money to buy the map. Secondly, he may be right about that whole money thing. If you purchased the ability to sneak from the prisoner in Caldera, chances are you won’t have enough money left over to buy the map, which will cost 100 gold.

There are several ways to get the clothes and the gold necessary to get the map. You don’t need nice or fancy clothes to get inside, just any clothes at all. Because of this, slave clothes will work. Behind the governor’s manor, towards the back of the town and on the left side, is the slave quarters. If you have the sneak ability, you can sneak right inside. Here you will find a chest containing a Dirty Shirt. Equip the Dirty Shirt to complete this part of the quest. If you can’t get into the slave quarters for whatever reason, you can also purchase them from a prison guard named Carter. This will be covered as part of the quest Sturdy Clothes, so look to that guide in the future for more information on completing this quest in that way.

If you don’t have the money, you can also get it in numerous ways. There are tons of little quests sprinkled about the island of Tacarigua. Search the town square and speak with the NPCs there to obtain all manner of quests, and refer to later guides for instructions on completing them in exchange for gold. Once you have a total of 100 gold or more and a good shirt on your back, you will be able to proceed with getting the map.

Head back inside of Di Fuego’s manor and again tell the guards that you need to visit the governor. They will allow you upstairs. Speak with Di Fuego and ask him to buy a map. Hand over the 100 gold and the map is all yours. You will receive 50 Glory points.
