Less then 2 weeks way from the launch of the new Star Trek MMO, Star Trek Online, We interviewed Cryptic's Markering Communications Manager, Ivan Sulic.

RarityGuide: So, is the game launching on Schedule?

Ivan:
Yes, game launches on February 2.

RG: It is currently in open beta. How is that going?

Ivan:
It is going very well. We have had lots more people participate in the beta then we expected. And we are listening to feedback from the players. Game at launch will have a lot of improvements.

RG: This misprediction of the number of players joining beta caused some problems with the server. Many complained of being disconnected and not being able to get in.

Ivan:
I apologize about that. But we worked hard on server optimization and adding hardware, and increasing capacity.

RG: Launch date is in less then 2 weeks. Do you expect things to go smoothly, will the server handle all the people coming to play at launch day?

Ivan:
Launch will be smooth, servers will handle all the players. The Cryptic team has a lot of experience with MMORPGs and is the best team to handle a launch of a MMO.

RG: A common complaint is that there isn't enough Klingon content

Ivan:
Klingons are focused on PvP. Players should see Klingons as an additional way to play the game. For example if someone plays Halo they don't have to decide they will play either Single Player OR Multiplayer. They can play both ways. Same in Star Trek Online. You can play as federation, and you can play in a different way, more PvP oriented, as the Klingons. But what is great about this game is that we listen to what the players want. Some companies release a game then go on vacation. But Star Trek Online is constantly evolving. Players want more Klingon content? We will add Klingon content. Players want new races? We will add races. We want to work together with the community to bring about the best Star Trek game.

RG: Some say Star Trek Online is just a Space version of Champions Online

Ivan:
People will say that just because we also made champions online. But Star Trek Online is a completely different game.

RG: Do you view Star Trek Online directly competing with Eve Online?

Ivan:
I don't see us as competing with Eve Online. Star Trek Online is completely different. There are many types and genres of MMOs. There is World of Warcraft, of course, which is the lightning in a bottle and has an unsurpassed number of players. Then there are Space RPGs, including games such as Eve Online, Jumpgate, and Star Trek Online. We are not looking to "steal" people from Eve Online, which is also a great RPG with great people.

RG: Will someone who has never seen a single episode of Star Trek Online be able to enjoy this game?

Ivan:
Certainly. While Star Trek Online is based on the Star Trek Universe, Anyone who wants to enjoy a good space MMO should be able to find his place in our game.
