Now, it’s all well and good to know that Natures exist and what they do, but you also ought to know which nature does what, right? Agreed, and so here is the list:
Hardy, Docile, Serious, Bashful, Quirky: These natures effectively do nothing, because they both boost and reduce the same stat.
Lonely: This nature boosts Attack and reduces Defense.
Brave: This nature boosts Attack and reduces Speed.
Adamant: This nature boosts Attack and reduces Special Attack.
Naughty: This nature boosts Attack and reduces Special Defense.
Bold: This nature boosts Defense and reduces Attack.
Relaxed: This nature boosts Defense and reduces Speed.
Impish: This nature boosts Defense and reduces Special Attack.
Lax: This nature boosts Defense and reduces Special Defense.
Timid: This nature boosts Speed and reduces Attack.
Hasty: This nature boosts Speed and reduces Defense.
Jolly: This nature boosts Speed and reduces Special Attack.
Naive: This nature boosts Speed and reduces Special Defense.
Modest: This nature boosts Special Attack and reduces Attack.
Mild: This nature boosts Special Attack and reduces Defense.
Quiet: This nature boosts Special Attack and reduces Speed.
Rash: This nature boosts Special Attack and reduces Special Defense.
Calm: This nature boosts Special Defense and reduces Attack.
Gentle: This nature boosts Special Defense and reduces Defense.
Sassy: This nature boosts Special Defense and reduces Speed.
Careful: This nature boosts Special Defense and reduces Special Attack.
That’s a full list- but there are some notes I would like to add on here.
First of all, always remember that your pokemon’s defenses are its lifeline. There are a few situations where you might not mind a Nature that reduces a pokemon’s defense (it’s defense in that kind is ludicrously high, or so low that no amount of work will make it decent), but these are rare to come across. Generally speaking, if your pokemon has a nature that reduces its defense, you should probably be seeking out a different example of the species for your team.
Second of all, keep in mind that most pokemon will want to focus either on physical attacks or special attacks- so the Adamant and Modest natures are fairly popular if you’re trying to get the best offensive you can going. This is not as strict of a thing as my first note, though- there are many situations where pokemon will have some physical attacks and one special attack, vice versa, or even an even split between physical and special offensive moves.
Finally, speed is always the most picky stat. Most pokemon in most situations will have as the most desirable nature either one that boosts speed at the cost of something else (with the intent to go first whenever possible), or one that lowers speed to boost something important (either because they don’t care how slow they go, or in some cases actually -want- to be slower than their opponent). These natures are actually the most commonly sought natures, specifically because of the way speed works- remember, sometimes going second means not going at all.
