The first order of business here is to find and defeat the Don Tonberry enemy, if you haven’t already. This enemy appears as a normal enemy on the battlefield, so run around until you encounter it at last. It will look like a normal Tonberry, but with white skin instead of green, and wearing blue shoes instead of brown. This is essentially a boss battle, as this is comparatively a very powerful enemy, although by the time you finally encounter it you should be able to best it easily if you have been following along with the guide. If not, follow the following strategy.

Boss Battle: Don Tonberry

Don Tonberry is resistant to all status ailments, so don’t even bother using any Paradigms that include a Saboteur. Instead, use the Delta Attack and Riot Shield Paradigms. In Riot Shield first, cast Bravery and Faithga on your party, then switch over to Delta Attack. Attack until you stagger the enemy. If you ever need to heal, switch to Solidarity quickly and return to Delta Attack. Once you stagger Don Tonberry, this will begin the second phase of the battle.

Don Tonberry will become far more resistant to the Chain Bonus at this point, so try to take away most of his health in the first stagger. Don Tonberry will begin casting Poison at an accelerated rate, so be sure to have a Synergist at hand to despell the attack as soon as it lands. It will also use the Deep-Seated Grudge attack around now, which will deal heavy damage to under-leveled parties. Finally, the boss will begin to use Wounding attacks, which can put you in a tricky spot if you are not careful. Use Wound Potions or magic to neglect these attacks. Build up Don Tonberry’s Chain Gauge using Ravagers, and then switch to Commandos once you have staggered it again to finish it off quickly.

After defeating Don Tonberry, you will be left to collect the numerous Fragments littering the Bresha Ruins 100AF area. First is the Palladium Ring Fragment. Head to the west from the starting position of the area and speak to the NPC named Pat. After talking with him, go into the tunnel to the northwest to find a treasure chest using Moogle Hunt. Grab the Weapon Material item from the chest, and then return it to Pat for the Palladium Ring Fragment. Now speak with the NPC named Professor near the northwester tunnels to begin the Osmium Ring side quest. Go into the tunnel straight ahead and use Moogle Hunt to reveal a person named Assistant. Speak with Assistant to obtain the Monster Analysis Report item, which you can return to Professor for the Osmium Ring Fragment.

Proceed to the Echoes of the Past area and head to the southeast area of the map. Here you will find an NPC named Walter. Speak with Walter to begin the Ruthenium Ring side quest. Head to the side to find an NPC named Raymond. You will have to speak with Raymond three times, and during these three conversations you will have to select the correct answers during a series of Live Trigger Events. The first conversation should be answered with these two responses: “Are you the famous Raymond?” or “You’ve gotta be the famous Raymond!” During the second conversation, respond with either of the following: “That’s an extraordinary weapon!” or “That’s an amazing weapon.” Finally, during the final conversation, answer with either of the following: “You’ve gotta teach me how to fight sometime!” or “I’d love for you to teach me how to fight!” After the third conversation, you will receive the Ruthenium Ring Fragment.

After completing the previous three quests, head to the Lamentable Rest area and speak with the NPC Ronan standing in front of the grave. This will initiate the Rhodium Ring side quest. Head to Bresha Ruins 300AF from the Historia Crux and go back to the Lamentable Rest area. You will find a stuffed animal Carcuncle. Examine it to collect the Old Device. Head back to 100AF and find Ronan again to return the item to him. You will receive the Rhodium Ring Fragment and a cutscene will initiate. After the cutscene, you will notice that a barrier in front of the control device has been removed. This will allow you to proceed with the next quest.

Go to the room that was just unlocked and talk to the NPC named Porter. This will begin the Adamantite Ring side quest. This quest consists of a journey to find two different passwords in two different Historia Crux locations. These passwords are themselves Fragments, so you’ll benefit triply from this side quest. First, head into the Historia Crux and go to Yaschas Massif 100AF. Go to the Paddraean Archeopolis area and go into the command center. Speak with Uma to get Thorne’s Information. Return to the Historia Crux and go to Yaschas Massif 110AF. Go to the south of the Paddraean Archeopolis area to reach a dead end. You will be able to see the faint shimmer of an out-of-phase person. Use Moogle Hunt and speak with this person. Answer “Thorne” to his question, and you will receive the first password.

Head to Bresha Ruins 300AF to find the second password. Go into the room with the control device that allowed you to defeat Atlas. Speak will the Government Agent, and then examine the device. This will initiate a puzzle.

Puzzle: Tile Trial Bresha Ruins

The solution to the first room is up, right, right, right, up, up, up, left, left, left, left, left, left, down, left, down, down, left, right, up, up, right, right, down, right, right, up, up, up. The solution to the second room is up, right, right, right, up, up, left, left, left, up, down, left, left, down, up, up, up, right, up, right, right, right, right, down, left, down, up, left, up, up. Finally, the solution to the third room is up, left, left, up, up, right,up, right, down, down, up, right, right, up, up, up, down, left, left, up, up.

You will receive the second password for completing the puzzle. Return to Porter and talk to him to get the Adamantite Ring Fragment. Speak with Porter again and a cutscene will begin. Accept the Kalavinka Fragment side quest. A waypoint will appear. Follow it to the southeast to fight Kalavinka.

Boss Battle: Kalavinka

Use the Premeditation Paradigm (a Synergist, a Saboteur, and a Sentinel) to debuff the enemy and buff yourself. Watch out for Kalavinka’s Hellstorm Bolt attack, which will deal heavy damage to you if you are not careful. The presence of a Sentinel in your party should help greatly with that one. Switch to the Delta Attack Paradigm to stagger Kalavinka, then whittle its health down with the Cerberus Paradigm once it is weakened. The battle should end soon.

You will receive the Kalavinka Fragment for winning this fight.

Now head to the Academia 500AF location from the Historia Crux. There really is not much here for late-game parties, but the little that is here is pretty significant. First, head to the platform to the northeast to find the Tezcatlipoca enemy. This creature will only appear once. To find it again, you will have to reset story progress for the area from the Historia Crux and go through the maze again. This isn’t exactly a difficult battle, but it is hard to find this enemy in the first place, and it is a necessary addition to your bestiary.

There is also a secret True Ending located in this area. You will have to collect all of the other Fragments in the game, a tough feat that you should have accomplished by now if you’ve been following along. After getting all 160 Fragments, activate the Paradox Scope and kill the final bosses again. The final cutscene will look familiar at first, but rest assured it will be different in the end.

At this point, you have officially completed every significant quest and event in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Congratulations!
