This walkthrough covers the optional boss battle against Yomi. You will have to have the Ochu Fragment in hand before completing this quest, and you will have to speak with Tipur to after defeating Ochu. He will give you another contract, this time for a creature named Yomi. Go to the weather machine and change the weather to stormy before hopping on a Chocobo and going to the Grave Ridge area. Fly across the gap to the south to reach your waypoint. Yomi will attack, beginning the boss battle.

Boss Battle: Yomi

Cast Vigilance, Protect, Shell, and Veil at the beginning of the battle, then furiously and quickly attack Yomi. This boss will relentlessly attack you, so you should return the favor. Trying to turtle up just wastes time and gets you slowly killed. The buffs that you’ve cast on yourself should be a great help here. If you got either of the weapons from Immortal, those can be helpful in building your Chain Gauge during this battle. When Yomi casts Impenetrable Aura, it is temporarily invincible. It will also reset its Chain Bonus and remove any debuffs you may have cast on it. Use this as an opportunity to re-buff yourself and heal.

After Yomi exits its Impenetrable Aura, switch to the Infiltration Paradigm (three Saboteurs) to poison it as quickly as possible. Poisoning Yomi will deal much more significant damage in this battle than in most, as the boss continuously resets its Chain Bonus through Impenetrable Aura, making physical and magical attacks less effective than usual.

Cast Bravega and Faithga on your party, and then switch to the Devastation Paradigm to deal some damage before Yomi inevitably casts Impenetrable Aura again. Use the Convalescence Paradigm to heal whenever Yomi is in its Impenetrable Aura state. That way you may continue to buff yourself using the Synergist even as you heal with two Medics. You can essentially use this strategy to chip away at Yomi’s life bar while focusing on maintaining your own.

Towards the end of the battle, Yomi will cast Wicked Whirl. Switch to the Tortoise Paradigm to take the heavy hit. This is important, as Wicked Whirl can be powerful enough to kill unsuspecting parties. Throughout the battle, just remember to keep up your buffs. Vigilance, Shell, and Protect are the three most important buffs you can have in this battle, as they boost your defense against Yomi’s relentless attacks. Yomi will sometimes use Putrescence, however, to remove the last two buffs that you have cast on yourself. For this reason, it is also important to maintain a constant state of Bravery and Faith, or some combination of other buffs, on your party. As long as you have two buffs that aren’t really important on your party, Putrescence won’t affect Vigilance, Shell, or Protect.

Use this strategy to slowly but surely kill Yomi.

Defeating this difficult boss will earn you 30,000 experience points and the Yomi Fragment.
