After activating the waypoint, a series of cutscenes will trigger and your battle against Chaos Bahamut will begin.

Boss Battle: Chaos Bahamut

The first thing you should do is to use a Librascope to discover the strengths and weaknesses of this creature. Chaos Bahamut has two “forms”: one hovering, and one flying. When it’s hovering, it will tend to use devastating physical attacks. When it’s flying, however, it favors ranged magic attacks. You’ll receive a bit of warning when it’s about to switch forms because it first has to use the Metamorphosis ability. When this happens, switch to the Tortoise Paradigm to avoid the Megaflare attack that is sure to follow. This attack deals strong damage and wounds your party.

Sentinels are basically useless against Chaos Bahamut, so don’t bother with any Paradigms that include a Sentinel. This boss is resistant to being provoked, and it can’t be wounded. Delta Attack is a pretty good Paradigm to use here, as is Variety.

Although Chaos Bahamut has some strong attacks and some annoying resistances, he is not particularly difficult to bring down. His health is low, and once staggered, he should fall fairly quickly. Especially potent are the Deshell and Deprotect abilities, as they will help you stagger him even faster. Once his health gets pretty low you can switch to Relentless Assault if he’s still staggered to bring the battle to a quick end, or play it safe with a more rounded Paradigm.

Boss Battle: Caius Ballad

Caius will begin the battle by casting Eye of Bahamut, a magic ability that inflicts numerous status effects on its target. Counter this by using a Remedy on whoever the spell hits. Switch to Attrition to heal up after the opening flurry of attacks. After you’re healed, use Delta Attack to damage him and switch to Attrition to heal whenever you have to.

As the Chain Gauge nears its top and Caius appears ready to succumb, he will use the Chain Break ability to reset the Chain to zero. This is an annoying move, but there’s nothing you can do about it. He will then cast Body and Soul, which will serve to buff him throughout the fight. This will increase his damage output significantly. You’ll want to have Phoenix Downs handy just in case. Upon filling the Chain Gauge again, Caius will succumb and be staggered. Don’t get ahead of yourself here, though. There’s no guarantee that a Relentless Assault Paradigm will be able to drain all of his health. If you’ve been having a pretty easy time with the battle so far, you can safely switch to Relentless Assault to end the battle here. If not, you may want to buff or heal yourself even as you attack in Caius’ weakened state.

Either way, Caius should fall soon.

Besting Caius in this initial battle will lead into another battle against him.

Boss Battle: Caius Ballad

Switch to the Tortoise Paradigm as Caius casts Body and Soul, Heart of Chaos, and Ultima. This will significantly reduce the damage he would’ve dealt with that final attack. Switch to the Delta Attack Paradigm now to begin fighting back. Build his Chain Gauge to stagger him, then switch to Relentless Assault to bring him down quickly.

Switch back to Tortoise after downing him though, as the battle is not yet over. Caius will again pick himself back up and resume the battle. He will cast Body and Soul and Ultima again. Desperate now, he will attack more during this second half of the battle. Once you stagger him, he will again use Chain Break. There’s a small chance that he won’t use this ability now. If not, take the opportunity to finish him off. Most likely, however, he will reset his Chain Gauge, forcing you to build it up anew. As you did earlier, alternate Delta Attack and Attrition to bring Caius down for the count. Towards the end of the fight, Caius will begin casting Inferno. This is a really powerful attack that can be devastating to your party if you can’t counter it with either a Medic or the Tortoise Paradigm. When his health looks like it’s around 20%, heal up and forget about turtling. Launch an all-out assault with either Relentless Assault or Delta Attack to cut Caius down.
