The Poketch is an extremely useful tool worked into the Fourth Generation games. The Pokenav, its predecessor, was very clunky and often annoying to use. The Poketch though offers a much more user-friendly interface and something completely different from any other iteration of Pokemon. While preloaded with only 4 applications, 21 more applications await you that can be loaded onto your Poketch. Some are simply for fun while others are incredibly useful over the course of your adventure (or in everyday life). Many of these are gotten by simply talking with the right people in the appropriate town while others have conditions that need to be met before the people will give you the application. Some of the applications in Platinum were previously only available by attending Nintendo Sponsored Events that would unlock them. Now though, more applications can be accessed over the course of game play. Each Poketch application will have details on how to attain it, stating the specific conditions, if any, that one would need to meet in order to get it.

Getting the Poketch:
Getting the Poke-watch, or simply Poketch, is relatively simple, if somewhat annoying. When you arrive in Jubilife City, you’ll see a Man standing the middle of the road, to the left of the Pokemon Center. This is the inventor of the Poketch. Talk to him and he’ll tell you about a promotional campaign that they’re having where by getting 3 coupons, you get a free Poketch. To get these coupons, you need to find the 3 hidden clowns in Jubilife City and correctly answer their questions. The questions are very simple about the world of Pokemon and you have unlimited tries to get them right so don’t fret about getting them wrong.

After collecting the coupons, return to the man near the Pokemon Center who sent you on this little quest. Give him the coupons and claim your Poketch!


#01: Digital Watch
A cute Pikachu Digital Watch. Its time is set by your DS’s internal clock and displayed in 24 hour format (1:00 pm is 13:00). Very useful for Time sensitive evolutions or just watching your play time.

#02 Calculator
A basic 10-digit calculator. It is very useful for doing some quick math, especially helpful for a particular gym if needed. For a little bonus, if you simply enter a Pokemon’s National Pokedex number and hit Equals, then the Poketch will emit that Pokemon’s cry.

#03 Memo Pad
A simple writing application. Using the Pencil and Eraser icons, one can write and erase what’s on the pad. Everything on the pad will only remain as long as the application is active, scrolling to a different application or turning off the DS will erase whatever is on the pad.

Obtained: From the President of the Poketch Company in Jubilife City after beating the Oreburg City Gym.

#04 Pedometer
An application that keeps track of the number of steps taken either by foot, bicycle or while surfing. This is very useful when one is used step-based items (such as the Poke-Radar or Vs. Seeker which recharge after 100/200 steps). When seeking Pokemon specifically that require the use of the Poke-Radar, this is an invaluable tool. This can only be reset by hitting the “C” button under the counter.

#05 Pokemon List
This application shows the status of your team, their HP, if they’re suffering from a status ailment or fainted. The Party screen is more informative frankly.

#06 Friendship Checker
A very useful application that you get early in the game. All the Pokemon in your party are displayed on the screen, bouncing around. By placing the stylus on the image of a particular Pokemon, it will show its affection/friendship/happiness level with a simple scale: 0 Hearts means its indifferent or simply doesn’t like you, 1 little heart means it cares, 2 little hearts means it likes you a bit and 2 Big hearts means it really likes you.

Obtained: In Eterna City Poke Center, talk to the Girl closest to the door.

#07 Drowsing Machine
This application reveals items that are otherwise hidden from view. All items’ locations are displayed relative to your character’s standing position at the time which you ping and find it.

Obtained: On Route 207, talk to Rowan’s Assistant after getting the Bicycle.

#08 Berry Searcher
It shows the relative position of all encountered and ripe berries. Useful for the forgetful or after something of a break form the game and berries happen to ripen in that time.

Obtained: In the house on Route 208, just before the entrance to Hearthome, talk to the girls there to get it.

#09 Day Care Checker
It shows the Pokemon you have in the Day Care in Solaceon City. It displays their present level as well as it will show if there is an egg to pick-up from the Day Care Guy.

Obtained: After checking in Pokemon at the Day Care, talk to the boy who appears in the Day Care to receive the application.

#10 Pokemon history
This application shows the 12 most recent captures/trades that you’ve done in your game.

Obtained: from a boy in Solaceon City, the man nearest the Poke Centers.

#11 Counter
Push the plus sign to raise the count. It supposedly has some use.

Obtained: On the second floor of the Veilstone Deptmartment, talk to the person at the far end of the counter.

#12 Analog Watch
Displays the time, much like the Digital Watch, just in Analog.

Obtain: In Celestic Town, in the South West House, talk to the boy.

#13 Marking Map
A map with 6 markers for you to note important locations. This map also allows you to track wandering/roving Pokemon.

Obtained: From the President of Poketch Company in Jubilife City after clearing the Heathome Gym.

#14 Link Search
It will display people engaged in wireless play within the range of your DS.

Obtained: Get from the President of the Poketch Company after clearing the Jubilife Gym.

#15 Coin Toss
It’s a coin toss application. For whatever reason you might need to flip a coin and don’t have a real one. Supposedly useful …

Obtained: Requires Rock Climb to get, second house on the right from the Inn on Route 213. Talk to the boy after clearing the Snowpoint Gym.

#16 Move Tester
An application which lets you choose a type of move to test (Flying, Poison, Fighting, etc.) and see how it will affect a potential target via their typing (Flying/Normal, Poison/Fighting, Ghost, Dark etc.) in terms of effectiveness. Very useful for people learning the typing system or for more experienced players when things slip from their minds.

#17 Calendar
It shows you the day and month. By touching dates you can mark them.

Obtained: Requires Rock Climb: In Sunyshore City, in the house nearest the Snorlax Rock, show the person a Pokemon with the Serious nature.

#18 Dot Artist
A 20x24 grid for you to “draw” on with dots. The color differs based on pressure, or by tapping the same spot a few times. These images will remain even if switching applications or turning off the DS.

Obtained: Requires Rock Climb: In Sunyshore City, in the house nearest the Snorlax Rock, show the person a Pokemon with the Naive nature.

#19 Roulette
Make your own Roulette wheel with this application and your stylus. Just write whatever and hit the button in the center to spin it.

Obtained: Requires Rock Climb: In Sunyshore City, in the house nearest the Snorlax Rock, show the person a Pokemon with the Quirky nature.

#20 Trainer Counter
Displays 3 things from your game information: the most encountered Pokemon, the most defeated Pokemon and most captured Pokemon.

Obtained: Professor Oak at the Pal Park on Route 221

#21 Kitchen Timer
It counts down the time set, from whatever to 99 minutes, 59 seconds at maximum.

Obtained: By showing the girl just inside the Pal Park Building, on Route 221, a Snorlax.

#22 Color Change
Allows you to change the color display of your Poketch.

Obtained: By showing the girl just inside the Pal Park Building, on Route 221, a Kecleon.

#23 Match-Up Checker
Allows you to check on how likely two particular Pokemon will produce an egg. It shows this in the simple form of a number of hearts from 0-3.

Obtained: Pastoria City: Safari Zone, catch 5 or more Pokemon in one trip.

#24 Stop Watch
A Voltorb themed stop-watch. Tap the center to start or stop it.

#25 Alarm Clock
Meant to awaken you with a loud Pokemon roar. It functions off your DS’s internal clock, again in 24 hour format.
